Making a new home for old iron

So, it’s been a while since I’ve been on here. Pretty sure nobody missed me... No, I’m sure. Anyway, I thought some of you might be interested to see what I’ve managed to pick up in the last few months. I’m planning to build a little garage shop just for fun and decided to go for what I really...

    2014 Fusion Stalling

I did some other “research” but was wondering if anyone here had something more to offer. I have a 2014 Ford Fusion SE with the 2.0L ecoboost engine. Today it started to stall. This happened four times. Each time was just after startup after placing in drive. Reverse was fine (may just be a...

    Closet Door Question

I’d like to replace my current 1980 builder grade sliding closet doors with somewhat nicer bifold doors. My rough opening is 82” x 58 1/2”. I’m finding that 80 x 30 is a pretty common size for bifold doors. Most have a trim allowance of 1/4” per side for the width. This still leaves me 1/2” too...

Big ol Grinder - Standard Electric Tool Co.

Thought about picking this up but it’d be too expensive to make compatible with single phase, at least for me. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Standard-Electrical-Tool-Co-Three-Phase-Grinder-PSU-/372473147870?nav=SEARCH Might go for a song if you’re into such old iron. BTW: this is not my...

    Conduit grounding question

I ran into this situation today and thought I'd ask what someone else might do. 120V 20A circuit in an industrial building. Two 12AWG THHN conductors in EMT with the conduit serving as the EGC. Do you ground the receptacle with a pigtail too or do you trust the screws securing the receptacle to...

    Wiha insulated tool set

Just thought I'd pass this along. http://www.kctoolco.com/wiha-insulated-pliers-drivers-7-piece-set-p/32985.htm Picked up a set at work. It's a pretty good deal for this group of tools. At least I thought so... It says COO Vietnam but at least the drivers in the set I received were made in...

    First Broken Ratchet!

So it finally happened. In all fairness to this 22 year old ratchet I was literally standing on it (all 6-5, 250lbs). Already have a repair kit on order for a whopping $10. Just posting because you're the only people I could think of that might care.

    Surface plate use

I was scolded at work today for having aluminum on a surface plate. I'm not a trained machinist so there are certainly things I haven't learned yet. It just seemed odd that you aren't supposed to do that. Is there anyone who can explain this with a little more detail? How does aluminum damage...

    Wera Hex-plus, who's used them?

Used them at work the other day on a suggestion and on loan from the tooling dept. Nothing would make this shcs fastener move. Hex key, no; hex socket, no; hex socket on impact gun; no; Wera Hex-plus key; no problem, first try. I'm sold. Plan on picking up a set very soon. I know they're pricy...
