Anyone modify window unit to provide portable air?

I moved into my new place in May and the attached 2-car garage is all brick with two windows that face the street. I do not want to put a window unit in the existing window due to the security risk or punch a large opening in the brick so my plan is a mini-split, but I simply don't have the...

Anybody using a Mighty Mule gate operator?

I am planning to move a little further out from the city and the place I found is fully fenced with a single gate about 12' wide. I would like to keep the gate closed and locked all of the time and Mighty Mules seems to be reasonably priced with nice options. Anyone can jump over the fence...

    Question about vise jaw replacement...

...I have an American Scale vise like the vise below. The jaws appear to be secured with a type of dado joint. Are they replaceable? If so, how are they removed?

Three projects I put off for 8 years...

....a vise stand, bench grinder stand and welder cart. I have tripped over the bench grinder and vise or moved both hundreds of times over the last eight years and have used the little sheetmetal Miller cart that came with my MM135 for almost ten years. The MM135 is gone but a Lincoln 175T...

First day with Milwaukee M12 Fuel Impact

I stopped by Home Depot after reading the review threads here and asking what an impact driver is useful for around the house and shop. I was undecided on the M12 and M18 Fuel after testing them at the display and wanted to check the price with tax against the online price with shipping...

What do you use your cordless Impact for?

I don't care if it's work, home or the shop but I am curious what ya'll use a cordless impact for; it's not a comparison question but 1/4" or 3/8". I am interested in a cordless impact but wonder if it will be a limited use tool.

    Mayhew Tools at TSC

I walked through TSC Sunday and noticed they had some Mayhew tools including scapers, punches and chisels. I have not seen the brand on the shelves before.

McMaster High Vis or Williams Hard Handles?

From previous screwdriver threads it appears that both of these sets are quality. I prefer the High Vis green for the visibility but I think the Williams style handles are more comfortable. I am on the edge, am I overlooking any attributes one way or the other?

Looked at Knipex and Channel Locks Today

I stopped by Lowes after reading another thread on pliers and looked at the selection of Knipex and Channel Locks. They both seemed to be high quality with the finish going to Knipex. I was surprised but the price is pretty close for similar tools. I was also hoping to see a variety pack for a...

Ya'll like the plain old combination Gearwrench?

I was given a SAE combination Gearwrench set years ago and then bought a complimentary Metric set. I was a little disappointed when I realized they are MIC but continue to use them on a regular basis. I have yet to break one and find myself grabbing a Gearwrench more often than my raised panel...

Made in Japan - Craftsman Impact Wrench

Howdy, I have a Craftsman impact wrench, Model 875-188840 that my Grandfather bought me back in the early 80's. My Google search and Garage Journal search did not turn up anything on this model. It is still working but may need to torn down, inspected and cleaned. Can ya'll give my any...

    My Grandpa's Columbian 04M2 Refinish

I brought my Grandfather's Columbian 04M2 vise home after he died in 1995 and rarely used it. Mostly it sat in a file cabinet or in my welding tote until I built a welding table a few years ago. I never mounted it correctly and when I needed it I just used c-clamps. I moved and it sat in storage...

    HF Engine Hoist Mods

I borrowed a family members HF hoist recently to pull my engine and realized as I was hooked up that the hoist arm needed to be extended. Off to the garage for wrenches to remove the bolt to extend the arm. When I was finished I found that some clip pins were missing from the folding leg pins...

    Punch stamp chrome sockets?

I have most socket sets I need with the exception of 1/2 metric and 3/8 metric deep sets. All my stuff is Craftsman so I stopped by Sears over the weekend to look at tools. I read on the forum that the laser etching wears off over time. Since all of my sockets are the old style, could I punch...
