I want a device similar to a screen door damper, but with a reverse action similar to an adjustable gas strut (extend instead of retract). This would be for controlling the speed of my wood gate, swinging towards the closed position, right before it latches onto the post strike plate.

My Craftsman vise was like $20 used. Over time, maybe from abuse, the screw in & out action has gotten a binding spot at the same point of every turn. Except for the first 1/2" of jaws being apart. That first 1/2" is smooth & easy. Beyond that it gets stiff at the same point. The most I've tried...
Does anyone have experience with this ratchet extension, with internal gears? Maybe a 3/8" drive version...It seems like it could be a handy, good idea.
This tool was passed down through a few generations of my father's side of my family, winding up in my garage. It is working quite nice. It is dated from Jan of 09. Almost 110 years old.

My garage/shop a buddy & I built 5 years ago. I still have a ways to go.
I didn't want to anchor the drill press to the garage floor, so I got some scrap wood, screws & 3" conduit clamps to anchor it to the wall. It is rigid and won't vibrate or shake around at all now.
