Did Craftsman actually have a shop to make their tools?

Hey All, When Craftsman/Sears were in their hay-day, did they have a factory where they made their tools? I'm just curious if they made them in house or always contracted them out to other tool makers? My toolboxes were apparently made by Waterloo but what about ratchets and wrenches, etc?

    New Craftsman screwdrivers (Taiwan)

I'd like to grab a true set of screwdrivers. Everything I have now are just a mixed bundle of stuff I've bought and was given. I gotta say, the nostalgia of having screwdrivers like I grew up with is playing into the idea of a Craftsman set- but the prices aren't bad and I've had great luck with...

My Dad had the Knipex clone...

I don't know when he got it and I haven't found the larger ones (usually sold in a set) but it has worked well for me so far. I like the idea of adjustable pliers, would it be worth looking into the Knipex brand? So far, for my occasional use, these work great. Any comments on these? They're...

    Any difference in vise grips?

Hey All, Wanting to throw a couple of Vise Grips in car toolboxes. Is there much difference in the different brands for occasional use? Some are a lot cheaper than others. 😉 Thanks in advance.

Buying hand tools locally is a crapshoot...

But if you have to go to Lowes or Home Depot or Harbor Freight for a specific tool, what brand name are you looking for first? I'm one of these water/sewage guys that actually uses an adjustable wrench everyday. In the last few weeks, I've bought a Stanley adjustable wrench made in Taiwan, a...

    Question on Stanley wrenches

On my quest to start an adjustable wrench collection, I was looking online for Stanley wrenches and found numerous samples for sale but none were made in the USA. They were from Taiwan, Japan and Spain. Did they make Stanley adjustable wrenches in the USA?

    The collecting bug...

I'm sure most of us who are visiting this vintage forum are collectors to a certain degree. I've just started collecting vintage tools and would appreciate some advice so I don't just collect old junk. When you started, did you collect a certain brand of tool? Type of tool? Maybe tools from a...

Is there a certain tool you use everyday for your job?

Please forgive me if this has been asked a million times before, but I'm new here and didn't find anything with the search function. Is there a certain tool you use every day for your job? Something that's either in your pocket or always within reach? I'm just curious what type of job and...

    Church Rummage Sale finds...

Pretty happy with these finds yesterday. I volunteered to set up the coffee and donuts for the women holding the sale and got first pick before the doors actually opened. Snap On wrench, a couple of old Craftsman USA ratchets and an SK one, three Williams wrenches along with a Billings and a...

Dunlap Adjustable wrench- Made in Germany

Hello all, First post here. So far, it's been a wealth of information. My Dad passed recently at 88 years old. He was a Sears guy at heart- almost all of his tools are old Craftsman USA stuff, along with 5 toolboxes, etc. I found an old Dunlap brand adjustable wrench in one of his boxes and...
