    Insulation with metal ceiling

So Id like to insulate my 36x56 barn using cellulose. It will have a metal ceiling with 4ft oc trusses. Do I need a vapor barrier or can I just apply the blown in cellulose directly to the metal?

I rented a mini excavator this weekend!

They are fun! I drilled 24” 4ft post holes with my rental, talk about a big post hole LOL.

sealing walls on new 36x56x12 build

Anybody use Pro-therm condensation blanket from menards on your walls? Company says it is used for roof and walls. They estimate R-8 which I highly doubt, just wondering if anyone has used it and what they think of it?

    Truss bottom cords?

Sorry, what I meant was by mixing different sized base cords will my top rafters still come out even for putting on roof as long as pitch is the same?

    Truss bottom cords?

Can I mix 2x6 and 2x4 bottom cords without issues as long as pitch is the same? I plan on using half scissor trusses with 2x4 bc and half storage trusses with 2x6 bc on a 30x48x10.

2 post lift in 30x40x10ft sides

You can do it with 10' walls if you go 5/12 pitch and scissor trusses over lift area. You would have over 12ft for your lift if you place lift in middle of trusses.

    My 30x48 *lots of pictures*

Very nice. What pitch is your roof? I am thinking of doing same size barn but use scissor trusses on the back 20ft for a lift in future.

30x56x10 with scissor trusses for lift?

So now I'm thinking about possibly a 36x40x10 and still using scissor trusses 5/12 pitch (easier to roof). What do you think? I am thinking this may work better with 3 doors, I will use the back portion of the middle door for my lift. Seems it would be easier getting around things instead of...

30x56x10 with scissor trusses for lift?

The lift I am looking at is a greg smith lift, total height is 11'9" so it should be fine. My trailblazer is just under 6ft from the bottom of the frame to the top and I am 6'1" tall so it should be fine. I may have to just watch my head a bit with the suv on it:scared: With cars I should have...

30x56x10 with scissor trusses for lift?

Well, if I go with 5/12 my truss manufacturer says inside will by 2.08/12. If I went with 32ft wide I would have around 33 inches above my wall height in the center. If I placed the lift in the center of the 32ft, and saying the lift is 9ft wide, I would have 24 inches height above ceiling...

30x56x10 with scissor trusses for lift?

Yeah, it will never be big enough, I plan on putting the doors on the 30 ft side, the lift will be in the back of the building. I was thinking 6/12 for storage but I am rethinking this as I want to do most everything myself. I am thinking about 32 wide and 56 deep. 5/12 pitch I believe with...

30x56x10 with scissor trusses for lift?

I am planning a 30x56x10 pole building and will be using a 6/12 pitch roof with the last 20 ft using scissor trusses for a 2 post lift, first 36ft will have light storage trusses. My question is do you think I will have any issues lifting up a truck if the lift is positioned in the center of the...

    OSB pricing

Do you think osb pricing might come down? Here in Michigan OSB has skyrocketed since I last checked it out in like feb of 2012. I have heard with the demand of it more mills may open up and prices will fall but I tend to think it will keep going up. Any thoughts?

    roof

I'm located in central michigan. Our snow load is 40psf. I originally wanted to go 4'oc with metal as it is a decent amount cheaper but I have heard a few bad things about the metal roofs expanding and loosening fasteners and getting leaks. Not to concerned about noise, I'm not sure if my...

    roof

Been talking to people in my area and many of them are saying go with good shingles since most of them have had some leaking problems with metal. Metal would be cheaper for the simple fact I have to buy twice as many trusses and osb for shingle roof but I would guess it would hold heat better...

    post selection

Called the local building inspector and I don't have a choice, it is 6x6 post for 12' walls. I also have to have 16" holes with 12" concrete disks 4" thick and then backfill with gravel. I can do concrete but he said my post would rot if encapsulated in crete. Now I get to decide on metal or...

    post selection

I am initially planning on going every 8' with the post. I am in the process of figuring out the codes in our township. When pricing post I seen that prices almost double for 4x6 to 6x6. I am just wondering if 6x6 might be overkill as I am on a budget but I also don't want a weak building...
