    Wood or metal work benches

One of each. I just sold one made of a rock maple prep table top that I flipped over onto a welded steel base. With casters. It was sweet.

    To Rebar or Not?

Definitely use rebar. And it's worth renting a concrete cutter and cutting joints the next day and then filling them with sikaflex afterwards...looks way cleaner than forming joints in wet concrete.

    cement cracks??

you gotta have control joints to crack, or else cracks go everywhere. i diamond-wheel cut my joints 18 hours after the pour and my 24 x 60 slab is cut into 28 squares. overkill? maybe...but no cracks!

What have you done with your lift?

Well, I built my garage as part of a 3000 sqft addition to my house, (garage is 1300 sqft of that) and I've got two lifts in the garage, hence two stories of use. First, one lift is just to keep my trailer with quads and all camping gear up and out of the way. But I have a 650 lb parallam beam...

    Sparging the Blocks

The stuff to use is called Vulkem. Google it. I'm using it on my garage b/c i had a drainage issue and didn't want to take any chances, so in addition to running one subsurface and two surface drain lines, i also coated my stem walls with this stuff. It's basically liquid rubber that dries into...

    newbie needs garage expansion ideas..

Bill- definitely do the 9x18. I have a 10x18 and I love it. It's also a roll-up instead of a roll-back, so you can save allthat headroom. The company that makes them is named Janus at janusintl.com. on your other stuff: 1) Lighting (what kind, how many, and where to have them) code in CA now...

    Another Compressed Air Option

Here are a couple pics. the first is a 3/4" coupling that I used once I found that Teflon tape won't make a good seal at 175 PSI...i had to cut the pipe to apply pipe-dope to a fitting below, and I figured I'd try the sharkbite to connect them again. The second pic is a 3/4 to MPT fitting to go...

    Another Compressed Air Option

Believe it or not, they're either brass or cast copper. Really well-built. They have an o-ring seal inside the sleeve, and there is a ring of teeth inside the collar that grip the pipe. When you insert a length of tube, you can feel it bottom out in the fitting and then you know it's locked in...

    Another Compressed Air Option

I've been researching my options for a compressed air system for my shop, and I've read just about everything on this board. After much time and effort, I decided to go with copper instead of any of the"blue pipe" aluminum systems. First, they are too expensive. Second, and no offense to those...

need some direction for lighting and workbench countertop...

i just bought 13 of those home depot lights for my garage. i shopped around quite a bit and those with the t9 ballast are the best deal i could find. I did go to the pro desk at HD and asked them for a better price since i was buying so many, and they gave me 10% off the whole order which was...

    Garage paint scheme?

I'm painting mine right now...Walls are 12 foot...it's going to be white ceiling, white walls 3 feet down, then light gray the rest of the way. Trim color is going to be orange (i think it's the new red, heh-heh) and the way I'm doing it, the orange will be just past the beginning of the gray...
