    HOT DEAL Index!!

My local Ace had Knipex end nippers, but that was it. I picked them up for $14 (not as good as the Husky $1 deal above). They also have a $10 off $50 coupon that will be valid tomorrow.

    Variance Meetings?

I second Sundowner. City councils can exercise some judgment on these. Our house was built a bit too close to the street by City Hall's mistake. We were told during the preliminary planning phase our setback was 25' from the street. After costly architectural and engineering designs, at the...

    video surveillance

I have eight installed, but I am having a PTZ unit added in a strategic location to look down the halls and the stairs, etc. I had the house prewired for CCTV before the drywalls went up so it was too easy for me :) The installer used a typical electrical box at each location then the cables...

    video surveillance

Oh man, I like the Swann user interface much better than Q-See's already. The instructions are much easier to understand and the setup is a lot more intuitive. Interesting that they specifically state only WinCE PDAs and Symbian OS phones work with theirs, but it doesn't say if the iPhone...

    video surveillance

The Q-See cameras provided are good enough to recognize faces under infrared, provided it is placed at the right angle (which itself can be a challenge, place it too low, it's within sticky fingers reach if outside; too high, the viewing angle becomes too steep.) Monitor size also makes a big...

    video surveillance

I have Costco's other H.264 DVR system (the 16 camera kit made by Q-See) installed. It records to a hard drive and depending on the HD size, it records over the old data once every 14 days. What is cool about the system is your ability to monitor the cameras over the internet via a password...

    Hose clamp screwdriver

My buddy who is a mechanic showed me his newest gadget, a screwdriver for hose clamps that grabs the screw head but still allowing you to turn it, preventing the clamp from rotating around the hose as it loosens. Anyone knows who makes it? Too bad I was in a hurry and did not spend time to...

    5.5mm Hex Bit?

I'm looking for a 5.5 mm hex bit to work on my Toyota fuel injection pump. I had to use a 5.5mm Allen key to tighten it, but I need something to fit on a torque wrench. Any suggestions? I thought I found it in an SK set, but when the set arrived, it had only 5mm and 6mm bits. Thanks in...

    www.SJDiscounttools.com ?

I had a very bad experience with them last year. I ordered an Equus timing light in March 18th, 2007. SJDiscount immediately charged my credit card. Three days later I got an e-mail saying they were back ordered. I wrote back asking when they will be available, they wrote, "We still hope...

Best way to keep building supplies from walking off?

Yep, definitely a ghetto. Houses around here are 4000 to 12000 sq ft. in size. Half acre empty lots sell for $1.5M plus. That is without a view. :pimpflash Lucky we bought the property quite a few years ago. San Francisco Bay Area, East Bay. I better not get anymore specific since all eyes...

Best way to keep building supplies from walking off?

We had wires cut and plumbing stolen by thieves during our new home construction too. They got probably $500-$1000 worth of copper but they caused $20000+ in damages. Luckily the general contractor covered all of the repair for us. He insisted temporary fencing would not be needed. We...

installing a sink in garage -- ideas? advice?

Thanks, e-tek! I'll slowly add here and there, but the level of expertise on this board scares me :scared: The sink is meant for general washing and cleaning up after a day in the yard or the garage. The wife got sick of cleaning grease and mud off the kitchen sink. Plus some day it will...

installing a sink in garage -- ideas? advice?

The house was done by our contractor, but if I recall correctly there was nothing special other than plumbing and drain lines behind it. Dave

installing a sink in garage -- ideas? advice?

Hi, from a forum lurker ... finally a topic I can contribute. I used a wall mount utility sink and a commercial kitchen faucet. The picture during construction is attached below The sink is from Florestone and the faucet is from Pasco. In the attached picture the pre-rinse faucet was not yet...

    Little Giant Ladders...

I just bought a Little Giant M22 from Sears for $197.99 before taxes yesterday. The sale on the M17 was not as good, so the price on the 22' was actually lower than the 17'. The Sears website is down now as everybody is shopping online today (Black Friday), but if you want a US made ladder at...

80 gal. compressor: Eaton or Porter Cable?

Well . . . the deal was too good to be true. When I got to the compressor seller's place, I immediately noticed the tank was a bit smaller than I expected. It was only 60 gallons instead of the advertised 80. Then I noticed the sticker says "7 starting hp, 3 running hp". I was miffed at the...

80 gal. compressor: Eaton or Porter Cable?

Thanks, Brian. The bead blaster takes 5 to 14 cfm between 60-100 psi. It's only a cheapo HF benchtop unit. But as you said, the extra $1200 can buy me a really nice new blasting cabinet. How does Porter Cable compare to Eaton, is it like Craftsman to Snap On? Or more like SK to Snap On? Dave
