Is it always safe to put an impact on a strut nut?

You can absolutely damage struts (especially adjustable ones) by using an impact on them. That doesn't stop people though and I'd wager most people who have an impact available to them will use it. You just have to be careful and pay attention to what you're doing.

Stick built, pre-built or pole barn? looking for ideas and garage floor plans.

I guess I'm failing to see the difference between the two options. One is framed on site and the other is framed at an assembly plant somewhere. Either way they're both made out of wood with essentially the same materials and processes. I think you might be overcomplicating that part of the...

MRCOOL DIY Mini Split, Seriously, I Think...

I use comfy mode to keep the garage between two temperature set points. Works great. Never have to touch it and the garage is always cool when I walk out there. Took some experimenting with temperature set points to get to where it wasn't running all the time.

GP Duo or Tekton Chrome & Impact?

Unless tekton has changed the shape and stampings of their impacts the past few years I'd pick something else. I know they're well liked on here but the 1/2" impacts I have are tapered only at the very end of the socket and I've run into multiple situations where the fat impact socket won't fit...

    Inconsistent Resistance Measurements

Thanks everyone. Pretty much confirms what I was already thinking and added some helpful info. I'm using the standard Klein probes that came with the multimeter. I'll pick up a test light and use that more regularly since mine seems to have wandered off.

    Inconsistent Resistance Measurements

Have a question for the GJ hive mind that has been bugging me for years. I work on a number of cars/trailers/boats where I'm trying to check continuity to ground. I've always struggled with getting a consistent reading. Used cheap multimeters for years. A few years back I bought a "nicer" Klein...

Anyone ever do glow in the dark flakes?

Friend has some glow in the dark flakes in his full flake epoxy floor. They work but it's nothing like what you're after I don't think.

    Craftsman Drill Press

I've been chipping away at cleaning up the DP I picked up. The power bronze paint is in OK shape but there are small chips all over. I think I'm probably just going to leave it though. Not really interested in all the work required to strip and repaint the whole thing. It came apart pretty...

    Craftsman Drill Press

Hi All. I just wanted to post up and show some appreciation for all the contributions people have made to this thread. I found it hugely helpful when I bought my first late 40s CM DP a bit over a year ago and I was trying to learn about it. Shame that all of Frank's photos are gone as they were...

Help a noob wire a detached garage

And since everyone around here like pictures. It's now painted. I've pulled relocated part of the chain link fence that was in front of it enclosing the backyard. Since this photo I've removed all the leftover fence posts. Still have to put some new fence up after the driveway gets ripped up and...

Help a noob wire a detached garage

I've been making progress. Went and submitted the permit info earlier this week. So waiting for the county to get back to me on that. However, I've got all the interior conduit boxes nailed in place. I've run romex between a bunch of them. Picked up my circuit breaker panel so I can mount that...

Help a noob wire a detached garage

This is the fixture I bought. Just so everyone is on the same page. https://www.prolighting.com/t443ssubcxx00p0-18w5k.html I did some more work earlier this week. Have pretty much all of the electrical boxes in place except for the exterior ones which will be a bunch more work. Have to cut out...

    Craftsman Drill Press

No association with the seller. But it looks like there are two different Craftsman drill presses in this post south of Daytona Beach FL. Someone needs to go buy them so I don't. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/461334205082216/

Help a noob wire a detached garage

Well I called the county. They might have been more useless than I am  Their suggestion was to submit a permit with my electrical, insulation, and drywall all as part of one application. Apparently insulation isn't inspected but drywall is? Then whoever looks over the permit will tell me...

Help a noob wire a detached garage

The fixtures have a knock-out in the center. I figured that would be sufficient to get wire into the fixture? They also have a little plug that comes with the fixture. So wire the romex into the plug. Remove the knock out in the fixture. Then lift the fixture up and fish plug through knockout...

Help a noob wire a detached garage

I assume this is somewhat common for places that use spray foam insulation. Since how else would you ever add new outlets/etc after the walls have been spray foamed? You have to go ahead and run empty conduit for them. But it's a good point. Between this and the comment below. Guess I need to...

Help a noob wire a detached garage

I hadn't thought about switches between the garage doors also. If I'm entering through the garage doors then the door opener lights will be on and will allow me to get to the switches next to the man door. But being able to just reach over between the garage doors would be convenient. Even if...

Help a noob wire a detached garage

The plan is the lighting on two circuits. A "front" and "back". I think that will work just fine. I suspect most of the time I'll have all the lights on anyways. I'm going to run conduit for extra outlets so that after the building is spray foamed I can still run 240v for a...

Help a noob wire a detached garage

Thanks that's the confirmation I needed. I had read you could just poke the romex straight through the drywall and make the splice inside the fixture. However, things get a little complicated because of my insulation choice. The building is getting spray foam insulation. Which means I can't do...
