You do good work. Are those tool chests resting directly on the floor? I would be concerned about water rusting them out.

Scissor lift is an option, but I wonder about exhaust work. Would the lift be in the way? I agree with you, it would be nice to get the car up if only a few feet.

I am considering a lift for my garage, but not sure if one will fit. The height is 8ft. 2 inches from floor to 2X4's above. I have storage overhead with plywood layed down on top of the 2X4's for a floor and a staircase at the end of the garage for access. Anyone have experience with lifts...

Great looking box. I have one just like it, only mine has a Duplex decal with the covers not having the embossed Snap-on logo.

As you say, I do want to keep it original. I will not paint it either. Thanks for the advice on replacing the key. I will take your advice and get a key made. I am currently cleaning the interior along with the tools.

Yes, I plan on keeping for as long as I can. I have no reason to sell it. As you say it has wonderful patina.

Thanks for the compliments on the Plomb box, guys. A lot of sentimental value. I worked out of this box as a kid with my father who was a Ford mechanic. I have some old Cornwell, Snap-on and craftsman tools inside. Only one or two Plomb sockets and Proto remaining as he probably wore them out.

Here's a Plomb 9998 tool chest my father purchased. Approximately 63 yrs. old. Paint faded but draws function perfectly. Still has small decal indicating where the box was purchased. These boxes are incredibly heavy. I am missing the keys. Are these available anywhere?

I just went online at Lowe's and selected my store. Did a search and found the trays on sale. I purchased them online with in store pickup. Apparently it is an online sale item only at my store. Not sure how these stores do their marketing.

Not on sale at my Lowe's either. $9.97 for one tray. I did notice that the tray is slotted for possibly hanging on the wall as well. Not sure if the sockets would stay in place, though if mounted vertically.

Here are a few more with the box open. It's still a little greasy inside as I haven't finished cleaning it up. David

It's not really rusty at all. A little surface rust around hindges. It was really greasy inside and out. I am still working on cleaning it up. I can't really tell if the color is dark green or black. It's in excellent condition. Are there alot of these around? David

Here's a duplex box from the late '40's or early '50's. The decal says Duplex New York. This was a box my father had when he was a Ford mechanic. Any more info? I think Snap-on had a similar design. Pictures didn't upload. Probably too, large.

I did not see any plomb tools, mostly Snap-On, Proto and Craftsman. Next week I'll be going through it to determine what is there. Most of the older tools have seen extensive use and are worn, such as Snap-On sockets from the early 50's. David

I believe the model I have is the Master Tool Chest #9998 in Chinese red. Thanks again for the link. it's a great resource. David

Thanks for the welcome and for the info. I will post a picture within the next week. I am cleaning out my father's garage which is quite some distance from me. Probably not interested in selling it as it has some sentimental value.

I am new to this forum. I have a late 1940's (approximately), Plomb bench top tool chest. It is a very dark red color and was purchased by my father who was a Ford mechanic after the war. Anyone know what year this model would have been available? David
