Hytest is my biggest competitor retail-wise. It's not much of a competition though :P

It sure seems my preconceived notion of Thorogood was way off.. I've only been familiar with 1 previously and it was complete garbage but it was a "hiker" style. I'm sure that has something to do with it. I will have to explore a bit more in this area from now on. Appreciate the insight fellas.

You are very correct and thanks for callin me out :P My mistake. Think they made this composite because its puncture resistant and they would be too heavy otherwise.

Most composite toes meet the same exact ASTM ratings as actual steel toe. Even at that most steel toes aren't so steel but actually a light alloy. I would actually say there are more composite right now than steel. Keen, unfortunately, is all "steel".

I would highly suggest trying a Carolina 5520 or a Keen Portland or Pittsburgh, and you can try a Thorogood as well, but I have very few people who try on these boots and do not like them.

I actually live 40 miles from where Thorogoods (Weinbrenners) are made. Didn't realize they were so popular. I have some people ask for them but figured it was only because they were made VERY locally.

Have you tried Dawn dish soap or maybe GoJo hand soap? Possibly not the kind of boot-savvy answer that was expected but I do know that there I am not familiar with any shoe cleaner that's worth a damn. Hope this helps. Also have you had the Keen for long? Durability-wise I agree with you on the...

Well I assume you can find your closest dealer here: http://www.keenfootwear.com/us/en/find_dealer.aspx I work at a retailer in a smaller town in WI, so I'm sure someone around you will carry them.

    Your favorite boots?

Well its more certainly not something you want if you don't need them but, for some its unavoidable. Steel toes have come a long ways.. Especially since Keen has started making steel toes.
