    Air grinder

That's pretty cool. Do you have a lot of grinding to do? Even without the glove, the hose-fitting style would have given the size away! That's pretty bizarre...

Delta Model 9 Horizontal Bandsaw, downfeed cylinder help

I can't speak to that model in particular, but usually the downfeeds are just some combination of check valves and adjustable valving--probably needle valve--to regulate downward motion. Essentially, there is a bypass with a check valve that allows easy (bypassed) upward motion, while downward...

The Canted Castle - 26'x22' rescue and rebuild

I did mean to add; Here's the only picture I could find of the garage as it stands today (or at least, when it was sold). Prow roof is gone, back to zero overhang. Ugly front door painted white. The building is standing straight, though that crooked drain spout will bother me to my grave...

The Canted Castle - 26'x22' rescue and rebuild

Ok, first off everyone, don't get excited, I don't have a new garage yet. However, I'm healthy, and the number and complexity of projects that are going on in this Georgia apartment is reaching a bit of a silly level, considering the space I have to work with, so I have decided to start a new...

The Canted Castle - 26'x22' rescue and rebuild

Well, I see I have been remiss again on my thread replies. I got pretty well buried in work here, and relaxing strolls through the interwebs have been few and far between. So, the Canted Castle has been sold (as well as the house that goes along with it, but who really cares about that?)...

The Canted Castle - 26'x22' rescue and rebuild

Eh, Georgia's alright. Just another place, I suppose. So far I'm not too bothered by the heat (though I know it's still getting worse) but boy, the gnats are really something! At the moment there is no new garage in the picture. My apartment lease runs until mid-June, and I don't expect to...

The Canted Castle - 26'x22' rescue and rebuild

I must have missed an update notification a while back; I didn't realize until just now that there were any posts after mine in July. Well, I have good and bad news. The good news is that I have some rendering teasers of the Canted Castle. You can see the rafter planning that has been a point...

The Canted Castle - 26'x22' rescue and rebuild

You said you might, so now you have to. Hey, I don't make the rules :dunno: Whether you put it on the boards or not, good luck! It can be daunting, do doubt...

The Canted Castle - 26'x22' rescue and rebuild

Sorry, in retrospect I guess it is hard to see. It's "paper". It's a wasps' nest. Dark spots on the floor are from water that has leaked under and through the old, rotted sill.

The Canted Castle - 26'x22' rescue and rebuild

The garage's left wall--which is the remaining wall needing sill replacement--is also the only wall that had pre-existing sheathing on the inside. So as I go along, I'm moving **** away from the wall, ripping down OSB sheathing, jacking, cutting, replacing. Today I got as far as moving ****...

Above 1200 Sq/FT The Lone Beech Garage (60x46x16)

Re: The Lone Beech Garage Build Thread (60x46) Nice! I'm sure it feels good to have now done some maintenance work in there--makes it feel like a space with a purpose!

The Canted Castle - 26'x22' rescue and rebuild

Yeah, I'm not pleased. Especially since I'm 99% sure that the previous owners lied--in a written statement--about there being no known leaks. I don't expect there's much to do there though except take them to civil court (open to suggestions on this point if anyone has any). I'm sure you're...

The Canted Castle - 26'x22' rescue and rebuild

Thanks jd, that would be a nice look to achieve. It's a 1956 building, so it'd be appropriate! Garage progress has been halted by the recent windy rains and discovery of several leaks in the house roof. It was a 2009 tear-off, so shouldn't be such an issue, but it's only strides away from the...

The Canted Castle - 26'x22' rescue and rebuild

Some progress to report this week. The front wall is ready for housewrap, as is the front 8' of the left wall. The front 8' of the left wall sill plate got replaced in the same manner as the previously shown walls. I decided to air-seal at the structural sheathing layer, so all the...

The Canted Castle - 26'x22' rescue and rebuild

Thanks '76, glad it's useful! Finally have some real progress shots. I can't believe it's been almost week since the last ones. The exterior sheathing and framing is done on the front wall. Still need to do some interior rafter framing work, but the front wall is very close to structurally...

The Canted Castle - 26'x22' rescue and rebuild

Brent, the back 2/3rds of the ridgeline will be supported by a steel beam, assuming I ever actually make the effort to track one down. Joinery will be a little different than your image, but essentially yes, the ridge joints will sit on the beam. I don't intend to do collar beams. Their...

The Canted Castle - 26'x22' rescue and rebuild

I agree, I should have been more specific; if I decided to over-roof, the corrugated would come off first. I am really hoping that the 1x12 decking is in good shape. The edges at the gables certainly look bad, but that's because there was no overhang or drip edging--water at the edges was...

The Canted Castle - 26'x22' rescue and rebuild

LOLed at this. I have not found the square. But really, the crooked-ness is so variable, my money would be on a protractor and random-number generator... I have not figured out what I will do for lighting at the front wall. I am open to interesting suggestions! Recessed is something that...

The Canted Castle - 26'x22' rescue and rebuild

Soffits Thanks Pauper! Now... Soffits... This is how you all frame them too right? Because I'm going to use fresh lumber to rebuild this exactly... Almost done with front wall; hopefully I can finish it up tomorrow.

Truckload of fun Still a ways away from doing the roof, but Menards has Owens Corning Classic shingles at 33% off for the next several days. Woot woot :rocker:. Got myself a whole truckload o' fun. Current roof is corrugated and I considered sticking with that, but boy the stuff in the...
