Metal Building - Holes in I-beam for elec/water?

It's a site built structure not a kit building. The welder is basically the manufacturer, I can't call Mueller or anything.

Metal Building - Holes in I-beam for elec/water?

Morning. I have a 40x60 metal building I'm starting to finish out. My main electrical panel and water heater are on the opposite side of a 12" I-beam. Can I punch out 1" holes for routing the elec/water through the I-Beam? Any worries about weakening the structure? The welder who put it...

In slab dust collection, air and power

Thanks for the reply. Not able to do all trenches. Do you think just recessed power outlets would be beneficial?

In slab dust collection, air and power

Afternoon, I’m planning my slab prep, since my pour is coming up soon. Actual shop space is 40x40 and I do a fair amount of wood working. I’d like to have dust collection run to the center(ish?) area of one bay for my table saw and joiner. I have a 3hp dust collector from HF that I...

TX - New metal bldg, slab and wall insulation questions

Thanks. Mine will be open air with no attic of any sort. Since you’re local, can I get some contacts for roll up/overhead doors and spray foam?

TX - New metal bldg, slab and wall insulation questions

Forgot to ask, for those local what kind of ventilation are you using? Or is the HVAC system covering those duties? I’ve kicked around everything from regular roof vents to a cupola to a gable fan. I’ll be doing mini splits in the living areas.

TX - New metal bldg, slab and wall insulation questions

Lol guess I was off there. I was thinking of footer depth where they said they wanted to dig down to hit undisturbed soil. Which obviously doesn’t haven’t to do with frost.

TX - New metal bldg, slab and wall insulation questions

That seems like a good investment. Any pics of the install? Do you just “set” the foam boards on the outside of the footer and then pour?

TX - New metal bldg, slab and wall insulation questions

Thanks for the post. Frost line is around 18-24” here. The norm for insulation around here is either none or 3” R10. This 1” R8 seems to be an oddball the more I read about it. I’m not sure on the correct terms for traditional or spread footing. It will have a perimeter footer and multiple...

TX - New metal bldg, slab and wall insulation questions

Well cold weather got me thinking about insulation for my new building. It’s a 40x60x18 and will be an hour outside of Austin TX. One bay (20x40) will be two story living quarters until my house can be built later. I’m holding off on spray foam insulation due to the costs. Metal pricing went...

30x50x12 Red Iron Bldg Erection Questions

I'm 35 and in decent shape. Depending on how finances go it may not be a bad idea to erect this in the fall/winter based on your experience. Nobody in the Austin, TX area is hungry for work and the prices are all very high for any trade. Appreciate the timeline, I couldn't find any idea how...

30x50x12 Red Iron Bldg Erection Questions

I requested a list of local erectors from Meuller and DDM. My thought was to hire out a skilled erection crew to do anchor bolts when they're pouring. I originally thought this could be done solely by concrete crew, but I guess that isn't the case. Appreciate the advice as this could have...

30x50x12 Red Iron Bldg Erection Questions

My guess would be drill anchors in would be acceptable if the original method failed. I'll have to ask the manufacturer. I planned on being present for the pour to check measurements the best i could. Good point though, thanks.

30x50x12 Red Iron Bldg Erection Questions

Thanks for the replies. All concrete and site prep will be done by others. They'll also place the anchor bolts and run the drains. I'm going to have plumbing roughed in on one bay for a small guest bath, I need to find some resources on that. I have a rough floor plan sketched out in...

30x50x12 Red Iron Bldg Erection Questions

Thanks for the replies. I received a quote for $5800 for all of the erecting. I’m already selling a bike to partially fund this so can’t afford that as well. Then there would be nothing left to put in the shop! I’m trying to find some YouTube videos on erecting these things to get a better...

30x50x12 Red Iron Bldg Erection Questions

Bolt up I-Beam. Very similar to a Mueller bldg, company is DDM Metals out of central TX. Not an overpriced car port. I have a six year old but I don't think he'll be much help. If it's just a few beams I could grab my wife to help with that aspect. I was wondering how I would trim out...

30x50x12 Red Iron Bldg Erection Questions

Good afternoon to everyone. I've been pricing out a shop for some time. What started as a single car shed is now going to be 1500 sq ft. I've received quotes from virtually every major online outfit I could find. A local vendor quoted me $16.2k out the door for 30x50x12 PEMB with...

    Objective advice on building shop/garage

Curious as to who quoted the building for that price and installation? For reference at a 30x50 plan I have going that’s similar, I’m around 20k installed not including slab.
