    Shop builders...do I need this?

I have a room in my garage that I keep tools and paint and other stuff locked up and heated, so I didn't want the heat escaping. So what I did was cut the threshold straight down the sides of the jamb. Now when I have the heat on, the threshold stays in the doorway, and when I need to roll...

Framing walls up to ceiling finished with steel panel

Take a piece of the DuraPanel and hold it to a piece of plywood, so that the profile of the panel can be traced onto the plywood. Now take that profile template and trace it onto the sheet rock you will be taking to the ceiling. Cut the profile out as you have it traced, and it should fit like...

I am thinking of making a heated cabinet. Crazy?

24x24 is not a small space, so have you thought of building a closet that you could put some wire shelves in and then heat with a small baseboard electric heater? I have a 10x10 "room" that I built inside of my garage to store all of our tools and items we don't want to freeze. We store...

    Shop interior walls

As soon as we get time we are going to re-do our workshop/showroom area of the garage and do it with the vintage industrial look. On the longest wall, the plan is to do brick veneer (thin brick) to give it the warehouse/industrial look. On the other walls we are probably looking at cedar or...

starting my 'wood' porcelain tile project! advice needed please.

Make sure, as already stated to spend a load of time on your prep. You might want to look into some sort of leveling system for the tile also, as a 48" tile can be tough to get perfectly even from front to back for a first timer. I have seen these used and they seem to be a great help. I am...

Stainless Steel WorkBench - where to begin?

I will be installing my top on Monday or Tuesday. My frame is the welded sguare tube with laminate cabinets setting in the frame. I installed 2 layers of 3/4" MDF as the sub top, and will put 16ga S/S over that. Really only need to lay a few lines of silicone over the MDF and then set the S/S...

    My Dad's Tools

I started a thread about the same thing, only mine situation was my dad had died and I was given all of his tools. One of the cool things is that there are several that I use almost every day either around the house or on the job. I think my old man would be pretty proud of that.

Best way to heat 1000 sqft garage

That is scary. I have a 30x40 garage, completly insulated and finished out. Inside of that space I have a 12x12 section that is built out to be a seperate space. I heat the small space year round with the small electric radiator type heaters set on low, this will maintain a 55-60 temp range...

    Cutting FRP panels ?

The majority of our business is the restaurant industry, so we put up a boat load of FRP. Great stuff for a wall in a garage IMO. Very easy material to work with if you prepare first. Also, if you are hanging full sheets, I would suggest having an extra set of hands to help out as putting it...

    No floor treatment at all?

Why not do the "showroom" floor in certain areas where looks may be important, and just sealing or curing the concrete in the actual working section? I feel that the amount of budgets that get eaten up with flooring could be better used for equipment, tools or toys!

    My 2-Car Porcelain Tile Install....

I have this issue also. When it really rains or is humid for a long period, my floor sweats. I am sure there was no vapor barrior installed when they poured. What prep can be done to facilitate a tile install, or do you not recommend for a floor with moisture issues?

Snap-On, Will they take tools back?

You don't need to educate him on tool buying (like others have said at least he was buying tools and not dope), you need to educate him on how money works. The best advice I ever received about money was this: Your money is a tool, you can either have it work for you or work against you. How...

Cool items that were my Dad's

A few more items. The item with the cup is a collapsable cup in a tin. I also have a bunch of old B&D power tools that are the metal casing. A few Wilton vises, and a bunch of things I haven't been able to identify. The item with rollers is for rolling smokes. I can remember me and my...
