Looks like a pretty flat yard. Hard to tell from the pictures but looks like you could remove soil from the backyard and slope everything to the rear of the yard/the corner opposite the garage. Check out the derilict garage by user fergus to see how bad a building can be and still be saved...

My experience with the hardi plank is about 12 years running now on the same coat of paint with a few joints re-caulked and not other touchup or need of paint. Vs. the cedar siding I have which appears to need paint every 4-6 years. Love the hardi.

Thanks for sharing the garage. It is great to see some of the evolution of storage and work space and see the things that work and the things that didn't work as expected.

Looks really great in concept, but I question it in reality. With 14ft walls your mezanine might end up a little low on the ceiling height but it would be mostly buld storage anyway wouldn't it? I would think you want to keep the work space on the ground floor. With that and budget/time in...

For wall height I had a quick question. Are you building on a slab or would their be footings, a few extra dollars in conctrete could add significant height while still using the 8ft lumber walls? Or is the wall height more of a neighborhood asthetics concern?

I am pretty sure our county rules allow multiple 10x20 structures, without permit, which is a terrible policy as it generates several small sheds on places instead of a decent structure.

I agree with mmhouse,ddawg16. I am willing to be proven wrong though and trbomx and 70chevelle sound like they have more information than I do. I don't know that either would be horribly wrong, but I built mine with OSB walls and Ply Roof.

I have 6 of the 8' 2 bulb HO T12 lights up in my shop so far. They have been purchased some at Home Depot some at Lowe's both stores had a limited selection of bulbs, I believe 4100K was the only option. Have not seen any T8 HO stuff at all.

Amongst others, user q20v has a thread titled "Barry's 18x20 Garage" in what sounds like setting much like yours. Very tidy with some of the challanges or a modern home. One of my favorites.
