    Noco Genius 10

The one thing I really dislike about my Noco charger is the proprietary leads. If you want to hook to a normal SAE charge connector, you either have to hack up their leads, or they will be happy to sell you an adapter for $15 a piece. So as much as I like the unit, its quite a scam they have...

Above 1200 Sq/FT PNW off grid compound

I'm in the same boat. Have about 400' from the road and every time I've asked what PG&E would charge to come in there the answer has been "bend over". Paying them 10's of thousands of dollars for the privilege of then paying their jacked up rates isn't super appealing. So for now, running off...

    Above 1200 Sq/FT I bought the farm

That looks like an amazing spot. Southern Oregon has some really nice areas. I've heard horror stories from other folks of trying to build up in the Santa Cruz mountains. Years of permitting and crazy requirements like you ran into. When we were looking at getting out of San Jose, we bought a...

Property clean up and a little dirt work

When I bought my property in the foothills, was pretty similar to yours, basically nothing on it. Bought an L series Kubota tractor and have spent the past 3 years with the box blade and grapple clearing brush, building roads and fire breaks, etc to clean up around the future home site...

24' Span for Loft Build in New Shop

Would go with an LVL. Lumber yard certainly won't have it in stock, but it usually only takes a few minutes to order one (and get it delivered). You could probably patch something together with regular lumber but why?

    Insane prices for additional concrete

Think on my 30x50 it was an extra $1500 or so to go from 4" to 6"

Above 1200 Sq/FT PNW off grid compound

What I've been struggling with. While its technically possible to build a system with enough solar/battery to ride out really cloudy days....at some point it just gets stupid expensive and makes sense to just run the genset for a bit.... Out of curiosity, why all the 6K inverters as opposed to...

4" Concrete 2-post lift install thoughts?

Although it would probably fine, I personally wouldn't risk it and would pour a couple footings where the lift will be. If nothing else there could be a liability issue if the floor isn't to spec and someone got hurt in an accident.

That is hugely helpful, thank you!

    Above 1200 Sq/FT Dream realized: my 40 x 80 shop build

Very cool project. My parents used to own the Hangman's Tree building in downtown Placerville. Neat town. What did your PGE run look like? I've got their lines on my property but its going to need a transformer and a couple hundred foot run to where I want them. Besides the long timeframe, I've...

After careful consideration...Ego is the worst company ever...

Since my original post I've got some time on the replacement 18" chainsaw (saw #4) and G2 version power head (head #2). - The saw so far is functioning. Haven't had too many hours on it but its lasted longer than the 3 others that died almost immediately. As with the others, it works very well...

Pepper spray burglar alarm to protect shop?

Not the cheapest option but because its rack mount, can easily expand capacity as needed. Also pairs nicely with my EG4 inverter to make setup simple. https://signaturesolar.com/eg4-lifepower4-lithium-battery-48v-100ah/

Pepper spray burglar alarm to protect shop?

Sounds like a really good way to get sued. On my property I did an off grid solar system, Starlink and security cameras that notify me if someone shows up. Can either yell at them through the cameras or just call the Sheriff. More time/money of course but if you want power/internet anyways its a...

    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT Sunset Ridge Shop Build

Winter has been pretty nuts. I'm down in Mariposa County and still waiting to get the siding on my building. Darn weather has not been cooperating. Good to finally see my pond full after a few years but definitely not ideal for construction work. Cool project, congrats on making it happen!

12/24V Shop Lighting Fixtures For Shed

I would personally run a small solar setup with battery and inverter. Then you can run whatever 120v off the shelf lights you want. Pretty easy to put a system together or just get a pre-made system from Ecoflow, Renogy, Jackery, etc

Thoughts on LED lighting with no replaceable bulb ?

I have multiple fixtures with an integrated LED. Have not had one fail yet. But they were all cheap enough that were it to fail I wouldn't mind replacing the whole unit, only takes a few minutes. If I had a fixture that was really expensive, or hard to replace I would consider doing a bulb based...

After careful consideration...Ego is the worst company ever...

Quick update. After Ego tried to send me halfway across the state for service, I contacted Amazon and they sent me a new saw no questions asked (Amazon support 1, Ego 0......). So far the new saw is awesome. Have been cutting lots of oak with it and its been fantastic. However.....now my...

After careful consideration...Ego is the worst company ever...

One of the reasons I'm still trying. Keep hoping I've just run into growing pains that will work themselves out as time goes on. There was a 2 year gap between my 2 failed 16" Ego saws and the 18" model so I had really hoped any issues would be resolved during that time.....

Haha, that whole thing was insane. I can't even imagine those poor folks that had to go through that.

While I've never personally owned any Ryobi tools, everyone I know who does has the same feedback, that for the price they actually work really well.
