Well no need to debate further in the grand scheme. Surface mount EMT seems like a smarter choice and honestly eliminates all the complications of stud drilling and cover plates. It's not like I am building a barndo this time around.

FWIW Garage doors that are automatic have am emergency release handle. It's not convenient but if the motor stops working you walk in your front door and then into the garage and pull the release and slide it up. It's what grandpa and grandma used to do back in the day before motors, lol!

I've been on the hunt for one of those Taco boxes to mount my mill on for the fact that they are so sturdy and have great storage, lol.

I use the various RTV's that come in the cheeze-whiz like cans. It's way easier to deal with and practically no mess. I have some silicone plugs from powder coating that I cap them off with and it keeps them fresh.
