KMScott, the measurement for the Samson of the exposed slide when jaws are shut is 8 inches. The measurements of the jaws you provided are almost spot on if not for some wear and tear.

    Vise Info Thread

Here is one I did not see on the list. Samson 5214, 5 inch jaws and weighing in at 102 pounds. I would guess made by Rock Island? Although the "meatball" is different and pretty large. No date on the slide, but it appears to have an OK

Edm152, good point. Not sure about yours, but on mine, it does not rest completely flat due to the screw not being perfectly smooth with the body. It is very slight, but making a small "cut out" on the bench where screw is would help.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Recently brought home a few vises. This one is very similar to Edm152's vise (including the stress cracks). It has the screw retainer of a Parker, but the only #0 I can find listed is a Wilson oval slide. Mount also looks like a Wilson. Nut can be removed from the under side. No additional...

Does not have a pat. number on it. It is Fred L. Meckel Chicago on the one side. Looks to have had a wooden handle or something in the one end. I did find this paper weight on worthpoint and even more interesting is what I just found on Find a Grave. The obituary states the same address as...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Came across this vise torn apart in the corner of the old farm shed. No markings other than the 134 on the very back. My guess is a Rock Island?? 4.5 inch forged in jaws. What do you guys think?

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Picked up an old Columbian Body Makers' No. 124 1/2 vise the other day. 4 1/2" jaws and around 58 pounds. Which is more than the catalogs list. Came out of a guys wood shop that worked on antique furniture. Pretty good shape but has homemade wood jaws. Not bad for $35 bucks.
