The original plan was just a simple thickened edge monolithic slab. But I was mostly talked out of that. I'm pretty certain if I were to add block, it would still be on top of the slab (no foundation/footer). Kinda figured the 4" block wouldn't be up to par. And unfortunately, there is nowhere...

Trying to work out some specifics... Will the 4" blocks be sound for load bearing, or would 6" be a better idea? I'm thinking 2 rows (for +16") would suffice. Then when the day comes to pour, I assume I'd need to plan ahead for any reinforcements to the wall and anchoring between the slab...

Yeah, I'm not really wanting to do a footing and foundation. Please tell me if I'm wrong here, but I don't see why monolithic slab wouldn't work. Budget wise, single income for a family of three don't leave much. But I should have enough to do it, if I keep it simple and take a step at a time...

I'm hearing 2 things...either build a block wall (below grade and above, I assume) then pour floor...or pour floor, then add block above that. I'm not doing stairs for the man door up and over a wall, I'd much rather lower the door.

BTW, it's about 12'×22', with a wall height of just under 8'. Studs are true 2×4, spaced at 24". Sheathing is lap board siding for the top 2/3, and OSB on the bottom 1/3.

This proposed block...just so I understand...would I be running it below grade, as a foundation of sorts, then pouring the floor after? Or are you talking about pouring a slab, then running a few rows of block on top of that? And are we talking cinder block? Please forgive my ignorance on this.

I hear your points on adding height. While it sounds great, it does seem like added expense and work. I suppose moving the doors down wouldn't be all that hard...I may end up replacing both anyway. The siding I did myself a few years back, and I'd imagine Menards probably still stocks it. But...

Grader, if I were to brace it up good and shoot both lifting beams clear across the width, working slowly on each end, you think I would have issues? So then you're recommending 4 guys working 4 jacks for a straight up lift? If I'm going about this wrong, please point out the flaws in my logic.

Keel, you bring up a good point. I've been back and forth on whether to do a simple monolithic slab (a couple inches above grade), or pour a taller foundation first then fill in the floor. Budget is a factor, so I've leaned toward no foundation. I figure it's been sitting in the dirt for 60+yrs...
