Thank you gentlemen. We have a torque wrench, but not a good way to hold the shaft. The thinking was that an impact wrench does away with needing to hold the shaft. Thanks tyreguy25 ... I didn't think about breakaway vs applied torque before your comment.

based on my limited experience, tj90 is correct. The way to apply the accuracy number within the range is just multiply. +/- 3% at 80 lb ft means +/- 2.4 lb ft. That is, expect the actual torque to be between 82.4 and 77.6 lb ft. That is 80 plus 2.4 to 80 minus 2.4. The 2.4 comes from 80...

I bought a used Powerbuilt 1/2 click type torque wrench that is way out of cal, to the point that it never does click. How do I disassemble it to see what is going on inside? How are calibration adjustments made?
