Lets make an all vintage Snap-on tool picture thread!

I have the same set, also the open end ones to match, but no pouches for them.

Accles and Pollock The ferret Spanner

Thanks Lugz. All the sets have the same logo, apart from the set numbering and yes, it's a very good picture of an actual ferret! Apart from the leather pouch No.1 set which has it embossed in to the leather they're all done with very thin transfers on to the wood cases. I've never seen an...

Accles and Pollock The ferret Spanner

I do have one of those no.1 sets in the leather pouch as advertised, and also the nos. 2 and 3 sets which came in wood boxes. The no. 3 set is actually the 1 and 2 sets combined. Will post up pictures here hopefully sometime soon..

Accles and Pollock The ferret Spanner

Thanks. I did make sense of Stan's explanation of the numbering format, after reading it through slowly several times... Here's the illustration shown on datamp.org and the 1914 advertisement for what is known as the no. 1 set:

Accles and Pollock The ferret Spanner

Thanks four.cycle. I didn't realise the patent date was so early, I hadn't read what is cast in to the handle!

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

Well, it's amazing what new things one can learn on the GJ! I never knew 'Leather Filler' existed before, so had to look it up.. Looks useful, and easily available in UK too. Of course I also clicked on the history of Angelus, which is a good story well worth reading in itself...

I need a double emoticon representing 'laugh' and 'like' (y) together..

Accles and Pollock The ferret Spanner

The OP hasn't checked back for years, but now the thread is reawakened I will try and post some pictures of my sets later on. There are 2 sizes of 'Ferret' ratchet, the small one has 12 teeth and the large one is 10 tooth. Not to be confused with a different set made by the same company, the...

Accles and Pollock The ferret Spanner

I have 3 Accles and Pollock sets in storage, different size sets. No use for anything, but interesting and attractive wood boxes:LOL:. They often come up for sale on eBay UK. The business started in 1896 https://acclesandpollock.co.uk/company/history/

    Britool (Made in England) thread

Thanks, I bought one of the first Workmates ever. The old Britool sockets aren't quite as good a fit as modern Snap On flank drive ones, and the ratchet is truly awful but of course that's not a fair comparison. Technology has moved on. It has it's place and is a pleasure to use occasionally...

    Britool (Made in England) thread

Thanks Alec. I reckon this one was originally a dark red hammered finish. It probably had a stick on label on the outside, and there's no evidence of any insert at all. The actual structure of the box is pretty good, it's just filthy and very poor exterior paint. Hardly any rust, I suppose the...

    T Williams Superslim

    That's interesting. I only have 2 spanners with 'BS' markings, and about 30 with 'BSF'.. The ones I have are: 5/8BS - 11/16BS 3/4BS - 7/8BS

    Britool (Made in England) thread

That's a nice useful set, especially with the additions and those Allen hex drivers. (y) Was your box originally black? I have a box for mine which looks black but it's been repainted in the past and is in poor condition. The pieces are on my wall board but it would be nice to refinish the box...

    T Williams Superslim

The 9/16" cranked open end fits nuts retaining a Land Rover Series 3 front propshaft drive end to it's drive flange. The bolts are captive on the flange and threaded 3/8 UNF. Land Rover helpfully designed the chassis so as a crossmember is right underneath them, so a cranked wrench is needed to...

The Lugzsonian - A Virtual Tour

We both remember the school ones as having the transparent shavings collector just like that.

The Lugzsonian - A Virtual Tour

I remember there was ones just like that at school, in England 60 years ago, no idea if they were the same make though. Mrs Farmer J remembers them too, she nods and smiles at the pictures when i asked her. She's got loads of pencils.
