Should I get mobile column lifts over a 2 post? Unique garage dimensions

Maybe the portable 7k maxjax make the most sense and I forget about lifting the 350. I don't see myself wanting to lift the 350 much anyway, just for the suspension upgrade, and I could pay a shop to do that instead. Im guessing 15k+ 2 post lifts will be much heavier and not fun to move, if...

Should I get mobile column lifts over a 2 post? Unique garage dimensions

I'd like to keep the 350 there - only in the winter - to prevent the camper water system from freezing. A removable 2 post lift sounds very promising. I'd only tear it down for the ~5 months of winter when I need to keep 2 cars in there. The rest of the year I'd only keep 1 in there, often...

Should I get mobile column lifts over a 2 post? Unique garage dimensions

As mentioned before, I don't know a lot about lifts, but from my understanding 4 post lifts are more for storage and 2 post are far superior for suspension work / lifting by the frame?

Should I get mobile column lifts over a 2 post? Unique garage dimensions

It's a 16' wide door. One thing not on the plans is I was able to reduce the width of that wall separating the front and rear garage (in the middle). Those plans show 10'1" (10'9.25" - 8") but I actually have 11'4" clear. So maybe I should take another hard look at seeing if I can fit a 2 post...

Should I get mobile column lifts over a 2 post? Unique garage dimensions

You're not wrong. Long story short... I did foresee the issues, but site and building constraints led me to doing the best I could. Yeah, four column's would be out of the question. Aren't only two needed to lift it by the frame on the sides? Similar to a 2 post...? Obviously lifting by the...

Should I get mobile column lifts over a 2 post? Unique garage dimensions

Jeez, I'm just asking so I can learn. I've never owned a lift before.

Should I get mobile column lifts over a 2 post? Unique garage dimensions

Why does it ****? Ari-hetra, for example, sells frame lift adapters. How is it any different than a 2 post? And with the columns and a solid frame you can even lift from rear+front instead of the sides.

Should I get mobile column lifts over a 2 post? Unique garage dimensions

New house build - just finished rough-in. It's a 3 car garage (but tight) with two in the front (21.5x21.5 - 13' ceiling), and one in the back (17' W x 27' - 9' ceiling), see attached drawing. Using the back 1 car garage for shop space and trying to keep the front 2 car area pretty clean so I...

Building a new 22x22 garage in front of shop - deciding on a lift

The final plan is to change up the ceiling framing a bit to get a 11.5' ceiling, keep the slab at the same height, and put in the Mohawk LC-12, with the overhead lines running through the rafters. I can raise my car 56" inches with the Roof Tent on, 44" without. I really wanted to drop the slab...

Building a new 22x22 garage in front of shop - deciding on a lift

My driveway will have some slope to it and be made of "pervious pavers" so it wouldn't be a good work surface The Mohawk Mobile columns also look pretty slick, but expensive and overkill capacity wise. I think the LC-12 is the ticket. Maybe the Bendpak XPR-12FDL if I care to save some money.

Building a new 22x22 garage in front of shop - deciding on a lift

No.. a 4 post lift isn't that useful for my purposes. Now I'm leaning towards screw parking: lower the garage slab 12-18" and put in a Mohawk LC-12 dead center. The wider posts of the LC-12, and no overhead or floor bar seem to be the best option to alleviate some of the Cons

Building a new 22x22 garage in front of shop - deciding on a lift

Well, my vehicles are all about 16 feet long, so they'll fit, except for my 1993 f250 7.3 IDI long bed (which I'm definitely not putting in the garage) haha. I'd love to have a full sized lift, but in my situation I see a lot of cons to it: 3 car garage becomes a 1 car garage (though not that...

Building a new 22x22 garage in front of shop - deciding on a lift

Oops, I forgot to include the off-site/apron. The garage front will actually be 38' from the street.

Building a new 22x22 garage in front of shop - deciding on a lift

Before you say build a bigger garage - I wish, but sorry, I can't, I live in Tahoe and we are restricted on how much square footage we can build. 22x22 is the biggest I can do. Pictures of plans below. I have an existing ~17 wide x 33' shop area, with 8' ceiling. The new garage is going in...

How to do this dial indicator measurement?

Good point, I did this. Worked out well. All assembled, and no play in the center differential. Made a quick video for my friends on the land rover forums

How to do this dial indicator measurement?

@ Capt: It's a LT230 transfer case for a Land rover discovery 2. I'm rebuilding it with a center diff lock, taller gears, new bearings. Thanks everyone. Making progress. Attached a photo. Since the transfer case is aluminum, I couldn't use the magnetic base, but I got lucky and the bolt holes...

How to do this dial indicator measurement?

That's a good idea with the feeler gauges. I need to be accurate to 2 thou in order to choose the right shim. Attached picture of the stand I have. Ordered it yesterday so I haven't tried it out yet. My concern is if I loosen the clamp to move the indicator horizontally, the indicator can also...

How to do this dial indicator measurement?

Attached screenshot from the manual I am working on. Steps 25-30 The purpose of this measurement is to get the difference in height between the gage block (LRT-41-014/3) and the bearing track. I have the special tools, but I do not have the DTI gauge L-bracket thats pictured. I have a regular...

Tips on tooling to aid in using a press? Bearings, races..

Lots of good tips. However I'm afraid I won't be acquiring a milling machine or welder anytime soon. I had to put the press in my kitchen next to the fridge :) So I'll just drool at those photos. I'll drop by a few shops to see if they have any scrap I can browse. I like the forklift idea... I...
