    The VISES of Garage Journal

Emmert Vises Catalogue 12 1912.pdf Looks to not have the parts and part number diagram, extra parts were being advertised for sale. The catalog itself is probably available online. An interesting read from the manufacturer. akasrick

    Parker No 22

Nathaniel: That is a Parker #22 that is tightened to the bench, it sits on a plate (base) has a washer under the bench that with a nut, handle and stud completes the through bench swivel lock down. It is missing the front collar as the trade catalog cut shows. I hope you acquire it reasonably...

Heck of a project Kevin. The 1886 catalog only mentions the jaws as being interchangeable and of cast steel. No detail of the jaw profile in the catalog cut. ` akasrick edited

    Vise Info Thread

CRISINMICH posted this jem: The "painted" finishes of that time were also toxic. One of the reasons that Stanley's president (Hart) was so well liked by its workers, he stopped stopped using the poisonous finishes. As usual trivia, I'm unable to point to that statement. Color or lack of...

There was also a process which I have no idea if Reed used, for what I call Electro Magically welded. Which means I have no idea how it was accomplished. I imagine a lot of energy was used. Looking at mine looks like it has none of the smoothness yours has. akasrick

Hollow towers? They jaws had to be attached someway. There is at least one patent showing a new way of attaching, fairly involved, I wouldn't imagine it got much traction. Looks like the towers were at least beefed up. Akasrick

    Reed 404R bolt

Unfortunately mine is mounted and have no way too get to the center bolt. I would imagine the base has a cutout in it the same shape as the bolt to accept the wedge which would be a little longer so it won't fall out through, the bolt fits in there then runs the base. A couple of round file cuts...

    Reed 404R bolt

I'd say that you know that this is what you are trying to accomplish. I wedge shaped bolt that runs in the base raceway that has teeth that are engaged when the bolt is tightened. They don't have watchmaker tolerances, but do grab tight. I wouldn't know how to get dimensions off of the 403 1/2 R...
