Well, after a bit of cleanup, here she is. I did not fully take it apart, mostly out of fear of damaging the back plate (it already has a ding). Just cleaned up the exterior and any buildup I could reach on the inside, lubed it up and reassembled. It opens and closes with ease! Thinking about...

Sounds like a good way to go, maybe partial swap towards a newer one. What model would you suggest? I don't do anything with metalworking normally (just bought this to try and help straighten some old Model T truck bed irons), mostly just dabbling in woodworking right now.

So after reading through that thread it looks like this was likely (unless I missed something) manufactured between 1941-1944 for the US Govt. as there is no date stamp or city listed. Still pretty cool, not sure what i'll do with it at this point. Probably either sell it to someone who...

Good to know, thanks! I picked this up because I needed a vise for a project and I liked the look. I don't know anything about them except what I picked up on a couple sites before finding this one. I submitted to that thread. Here are pictures after some clean-up duty, no date stamp found.

Picked this up today. No date stamp that I can find. Any ideas on age?

The only indication is on the side where it says PAT PEN which places it as one made in the first few months of production, as the patents were issued later that year. There are no date codes on any parts at all that i have found.

Hello all! (new here) I just picked up this Patent Pending Wilton No. 4 Vise from an antique shop today for $40. I started cleaning it up and got curious about it's age. After a little more digging, it turns out that it is pre-1942, which is pretty impressive considering it still works...
