    Tekton Semi-Deep

These mini extensions are the solution that doesn’t require buying an entire set of sockets. I had several and love being able to get just the right length for the situation. https://www.tekton.com/mini-extension-set-3-piece-sha99020

    Soft vise jaws

I use solid copper jaws exclusively at this point. I expected to be swapping back to steel ones frequently, but it hasn't happened. The copper ones are soft enough to not mar parts but hard enough to not deform too much. Once a year or so I throw them back on the mill and clean up the surfaces...

    The Bicycle (Specialty) Tools Thread

My understanding is that it's just the i9 Hydra hubs that are problematic, and as I said in my post, those aren't the ones I run. The road and Torch hubs have long had a reputation of being bombproof. There's no need to throw an entire company's products under the bus because one model they make...

    The Bicycle (Specialty) Tools Thread

My hub recommendation remains i9. I’m running their 60T road hubs on my road and gravel wheel sets and their 120T Torch hubs on my mountain bikes. They’ve been fantastic over tens of thousands of miles.

The Wera 870/1 is a fantastic alternative that's much more compact:

    Upgrading drill press chuck

A properly seated taper can hold many times the force required to shear off a tang. In fact, with a large twist drill, you can shear off the tang remarkably easily if your taper is bad and not holding. Sure, the tang can be used as a crutch if you have a chewed up taper that doesn't make good...

    Upgrading drill press chuck

The tang is just to aid removal. It's not a required component.

Are Starret Tap handles still “the best”? Also, which sizes to get started?

I have a number of old Starrett 91 and 93 series tap wrenches that long predate Starrett moving production overseas and none of them have an explicit 'made in' stamp. Some just say 'The L.S.S. Co' or 'The L.S. Starret Co. Athol, Mass'

    Howdy from DRPD!

I see that the color coded Phillips Evo drivers have changed their colors (old #2 was orange, but the Evo #2 now red). Are the handle sizes nominally equivalent between the old and new drivers for the same drive size or have they changed? I always found the #2 Phillips just a little small for my...

    Howdy from DRPD!

The levels look very nice. I've been looking for a good general purpose level for a little while. Any chance of a small July 4th sale? You're getting my money either way, but I'd likely grab a few more things in that case.

What were your issues? I’ve been running hot wax exclusively for about 7 years and love it. My chain is always perfectly clean and dry at all times. I have a few chains pre-waxed so every 400 or so miles I just swap chains and then wax a batch when a bunch are ready. The biggest downside is...

    primeweld tungsten size

I also use blue lanthanated tungstens as my go-to for all general purpose work, both AC and DC. There are tungstens that can give better results in some application-specific circumstances, but lanthanated tungstens are good enough in most situations.

That mirrors my experience with Shimano brakes. I run Ultegra 8000 series 2 pot calipers on my road/cross/gravel bike and both 2 pot and 4 pot XT 8000 series on my mountain bikes. When bled well, they're fantastic. When bled poorly, the bite point wanders and they're not fun to ride. So I was...

    Bits Sticking in router collet.

What do you mean by sticking? I believe that model has a self extracting collet so you unscrew the collet nut until it goes loose and then keep unscrewing until it gets stiff again. When it goes loose the second time the bit should be free.

show me your 3-D printed tool organizers!

I almost exclusively use ABS. It's cheap, strong, and won't deform if left out in the Colorado sun. But it requires a good printer with an insulated enclosure to print well. My print chamber is typically about 65˚C (150˚F) when I print large parts out of ABS.

Replacement Snapon Instinct / PBSwiss / Wera, etc handles

I liked the Tekton hard handled screwdriver handles, so I purchased a couple of the screwdrivers, heated the blades up with a torch, and pulled them out of the handles. I enlarged the hole with a drill and epoxied the tool in to the handle (in this case a roto ratchet).

Yup. I just measured the thickness of all the wrenches and made slots with enough clearance. It didn't take very long. The embossed text accented with a contrasting color sharpie is a very useful detail. Makes it super quick to grab the correct tool.
