    My 720 sqft garage.

The 1 inch channels your looking at are "chases" for electric wire. I thought about using SIP's for the roof, but the cost for that was out of my budget. As it is. The roof trusses are a raised heal type and will have at least R19 insulation and I may end up blowing more in there in the future...

    My 720 sqft garage.

Ok. Some progress has been made. Remember this picture with the question "How am I gonna get that air compressor up there?" Well, this is how I did it. That's a winch bolted to the top of my compressor between the motor and compressor. Anna running around in the back yard while I...

    My 720 sqft garage.

Each panel has a recessed edge. You can see it in some of the early pictures. Each panel sits on a 2X6 plate that's on top of the sill plate. The edges are nailed to the plate through the edges of the panel. You can join them with 4X4 wood studs but I opted for the thermal spline which is 4X4...

    My 720 sqft garage.

I liked the look of it but it was so small and had holes in it where it met the footer. Floor was lumpy thin cement. This will be a lot better. John

    My 720 sqft garage.

Thanks for all the nice comments. Anna wants Daddy to finish his 2002 in comfort! The sips were put up by the guys that I hired to build/help build my garage. I had asked a lot of contractors about sips and no one wanted to touch it. These guys are local builders/craftsmen and had built a few...

How did you end the insulated slab at the doors?

Thanks for the replies. I started to think today that a trough drain that runs across the garage infront of where the doors are would isolate the slab from the outside slab and catch any water runoff from the cars in the winter. I can tie the drain into a trough drain that's at the base of my...

    My 720 sqft garage.

I have been garageless since we moved to a new house. Well, today the block was put down on the footer and tomorrow the 720sqft. garage goes up. It will be constructed with SIP's (structural insulated pannals) and have a heated slab. John Here's what came with the house. It just wouldn't do...

How did you end the insulated slab at the doors?

Like the topic says. How did you keep your slab insulated (isolated) from the apron thats in-front of the garage doors? Gap in the cement with the 2 inch foam visible? An good pictures of this? I'm at the point of putting down the 10 mill vapor barrier, 2" foam insulation and then the PEX for...

We want to see your garage!

Not done yet. Life keeps getting in the way. Just moved and tore down the garage. A new one should be up in April. This one served me well. John

    Why hydronic? Cheaper? Tank cost?

3 grand for a water heater? I know your not talking about a regular water heater, but aren't there any other options? Tankless? I'm starting to think I'll go with an electric source for my heated floor in my garage. John

How to attach a framed wall to radiant heated floor?

Not speaking from experience, but you could use an electric jackhammer to bust up small areas for sinking some lag bolts for a sill plate. Glue works fine except it's not the bond with the floor that is the limiting factor, it's the strength of the concrete that's the problem. I would guess that...

    Post your completed garage!

Thanks for the kind words. The designer and builder was he and his Dad. His Dad designed the house back in the 70's but they did the garage (after a 20 year fight with zoning) a few years ago. Yes that is a lift. However there is a loft for storage. John

    Garage door size?

Thanks for all the ideas. I'm starting to think of going to one 2 car garage door on the front and a single still on the side. I like the ease of the two car door but I like the look of the single car door...... Hmm..... John

    Garage door size?

I'm in the planning stage of a 22X50' garage with two one car garage doors on the front and one on the side. The SIP manufacturer asked me what size doors I want? So, what size do I want? I tend to own smaller cars (a 5 series BMW would be a big car in my family). John

    Who has built with SIP's

Thanks for all the replies. I have contacted Enercept and EPD. Both have yet to return an e-mail. Maybe they are so busy they don't want to mess around with a 1100 sqft garage:wtf: I'm gonna start calling them on a regular basis. My contractor just wants to build it with 2X4s. John
