    This happened to me last spring. Storm blew a top out of a pine tree on to my service line to my shop. In Alabama, the power company came an restrung the line once a had everything fixed. It was my neighbors tree of which he was not responsible. Act of God law.

    Tapping 1” thick steel

    What I did was get a set of tap size u need. That would be starter tap then #2 tap then #3. Progress in that order takes the stress off your #3 tap.

    I have a up stairs in my shop. So I nailed 2 scrap 2x4s between steps going up and a support beam holding up the up stairs landing. Nail the 2x4s across from each other leaves a gap to hang your hammers through.

    I was a machinist for 25 years. When it came to measuring pieces your talking about we always use trammels. Maybe you could try it out and see if this helps?

    What do you do with your old wrenches and sockets.

    My daughter just moved out of the house. So, I gathered up a large set of box-end wrenches both standard and metric. Also did the same on sockets. Ended being a great starter set. Most likely will last her( being single ) a long time. She loved it.
