Baldor 8” Buffer Cast Iron Pedestal

Baldor 333b 8 inch buffer 3/4hp single phase. Can wire for 220v or 110v. Currently wired for 110v. The old school cast iron pedestal (pretty sure) is from the 50s. The buffer itself is just about new. I acquired it in a trade for a bunch of machine shop stuff from a going out of business sale...

    Vintage Grinder Sticker Reproduction

The replacement plate showed up today. Looks fantastic. The resto project on my drill press had stalled a few weeks ago. This got me motivated to get moving on it again. Thanks Matt!!

The Vintage Craftsman GP Motor Thread

@nutjob Kevin, have you ever considered fabricating another one of your capacitor bracket/mounts? I'd be willing to part with a tidy sum of cash for one.

The Vintage Craftsman GP Motor Thread

Thanks Fellas. All very good info. Here's the motor I picked up on eBay. It looks fairly tidy. The power cord will definitely have to be replaced. I'll have a closer look at the bearings and test the capacitor, etc when I get it taken apart this weekend.

The Vintage Craftsman GP Motor Thread

Looks great! I'm taking lots of notes from this thread. I'll probably start stripping down my 1/2hp Craftsman this weekend. Are people still getting their bearings from Accurate Bearings? I think I was told to email Kevin there to get a pair?

    Show off your Jack(s)

Great info CRTDI. Thanks very much for posting the advertisements. I have been away on a business trip the last few days so I haven't had much time play with the new jack. Before I left for the trip i hosed down the entire jack in WD40 to loosen some of the grime. I wiped off all the sludge...

    Show off your Jack(s)

I revisited this thread for the first time in a long time a few days ago. It gave me the itch to see if I could find a new toy. I found this beauty on Craigslist and brought it home this weekend. The fellow I bought it from said it's been in his family for three generations and he's pretty sure...

    Show off your Jack(s)

Nice find, Exeter. I rebuilt an SJ2 about 5 years ago. It has been a real workhorse for me. Never fails and has literally never dropped a drip on the floor in those 5 years.

Opinions on an older air compressor

I'm going to check the local Grainger. I think they have a few 3/8" Wilkerson's in stock. Now I will show some ignorance with this question.... Does it matter what direction the air flows through the regulator? There is an arrow pointing on the front of the regulator in the attached image. I...

Gotcha. Keeping the ball valve. Any thoughts on size of regulator?

Opinions on an older air compressor

I used some felpro gasket material from the auto parts store and was able to make a head gasket using careful measurements, a compass, a utility knife and a Dremel tool. The gasket is working great. Now I need to come up with a solution for a pressure regulator. The unit currently just has a...

Opinions on an older air compressor

Yeah. That was the first call I made. The service shop said they stopped making this model in the mid 80's and most of the replacement parts had been used up years ago. No more manifold gaskets. I'm gonna take kams1973's advice and make one. I'm pretty sure they carry sheets of gasket material...

Opinions on an older air compressor

The old beauty had been coming along nicely. I tested it for a couple days and found some leaks around the unloader valve. The unloader valve and check valve were both a bit gummed up so I cleaned them up and everything was leak free. After looking at the condition of these parts I decided to...

    Good setup for wiring compressor?

Thanks for the help guys! I decided to use the 20 amp breaker with a short run to a receptacle directly below the panel. I guess the disconnect switch was def overkill. This simpler setup should work great

    Good setup for wiring compressor?

Unfortunately, it's a little more involved.... The unit is smaller but it's still a bit of a beast. It weighs over a 100 pounds and I have no intention of trying to move it once i get it sitauted in it's final spot. It'll never be moved. Does it still make sense to just install a receptacle? I...

    Good setup for wiring compressor?

I acquired a compressor for a customer that will replace my current unit. I was planning on adding a dedicated breaker to the existing fuse panel and adding a non fusible safety switch directly below the fuse panel (compressor is going right next to the fuse panel) and then hard wiring the...
