Just got the replacement pliers and it seems they can make them correctly.

They agreed it's not acceptable and that they will send a new one. They said they don't want the misaligned pliers back and to dispose of them.

If you are asking me (the OP) then the answer is the pictures show it on the smallest setting.

Yeah, I guess I know that but since it's a three position plier I thought maybe the geometry was such that they had to make a choice as to what position the jaws should align. Making a call to customer service. Thanks.

Brand new pliers, aquired through the Snap-on website. Gonna go out on a limb and say this isn't the way it's supposed to be? On the widest setting, the tips seem to align. Is this normal for these pliers? Sorry if this seems like a stupid question.

A little late and you may already know this but Snap-on has 5 inch regular and 6.5 inch needlenose locking pliers that are Snap-on branded but look exactly like the Malco Eagle Grips on their website. Problem is they are $80-$82.

No, the anvil could extend fully to the gear without the taper and still fit. The cutout curves back to the diameter of the anvil at a point that sticks out of the ratchet a good millimeter, so there's no obstruction as the gear turns. If that made sense.

Could be I guess. It wouldn't make sense to be a weak point to protect the innards as everything is replaced in a rebuild kit. My question is because I thought I'd seen these before with the anvil profiled like a normal ratchet, and I wondered why it changed (if it did). My memory could be wrong.
