Small Welding - Fixture Table build

Very nice work, I like the air cylinder idea, make a pedal on one of the base legs so you can adjust it up or down while sitting.

lard as a cutting oil? and other machining questions.

I have been told by my older teachers that bacon grease and or lard is an excellent lube for cutting, tapping and drilling. I am all for better technology but in some cases, the older methods are the only options in order to duplicate the older parts and processes. I have a jar of bacon grease...

Need to make a hoop out of pipe or tubing

Lots of great ideas, thanks. Do I need a center support in the area shown on the picture or will the 1/2" emt pipe be sturdy enough?

Need to make a hoop out of pipe or tubing

Thankfully it doesn't have to be perfect since it will be sitting on the ground. I'm going to start working on it tomorrow and I'll try a couple ideas. Worse case is I buy a H/F tubing roller. I didn't want to spend that much on tools for this one project but we'll see.

Need to make a hoop out of pipe or tubing

I want to make an outdoor Christmas tree out of piping. I was considering 1/2 emt tubing so that it is light and easy to work with. Open to suggestions on the material if need. My plan is to make a large hoop at the base, middle?, and top that a bunch of vertical tubing can be fashioned into a...

Custom steering arm build, need parts

I am planning to drop this one a bit further and I am going to try the flipped uprights/spindles to get it lower. Most of the ones that do it have issues with the steering angles getting messed up and so I figure why fight it when we could make new ones. One option was to make a mock up with the...

Custom steering arm build, need parts

The first one, thanks Keith. Thank you everyone for your help. I asked for some help and suggestions on another forum and had people getting **** hurt because I asked for help. I guess that's what I get for asking for help on a forum with like minded people. The age of asking and receiving...

Custom steering arm build, need parts

Here is a couple of pictures to help explain. I am modifying a current steering setup for better angles and it already has tie rod ends so switching to heims is nor really an option but if worse comes to worse.... I have several websites saved that sell the inserts, again, worse case...... I...

Custom steering arm build, need parts

I am planning to make some steering arms out of tubing and I am having a heck of a time finding a tubing spacer with a tapered hole so that a tie rod can be bolted in place. I am bending and cutting some tubing to make the arms and need the spacer, tubing, bung or whatever you would like to...

Fabbing my wife's Christmas present (car audio)

Very nice build and a nice suprise for the wife! Any concerns with the top cover vibrating or possibly dampening the sub when it is closed? Maybe a new top panel that is cut out and supported so items can still be loaded on top of it? Either way, I guess you could just raise the sub level...

My shop is used for ...

Dude, that is awesome!! The only problem with taking your hobby up several notches to make it your full time job, you get burnt out really bad. Remember to keep it fresh and fun. I am a sucker for a handmade knife, can you post a website or where one can see your models? ** Sorry, I was too...

    Need to knows?

Back in the day when I used to roll around under heavy equipment and tractor trailers, I use to get the grease out of my jeans by scrubbing them in diesel. I flushed them out with some simple green, tossed them into the washer with somemore simple green and baking soda, came out spotless, not to...

    Motorcycle Stand Grating

You did a mighty fine job and came up with a good solution, a couple of points from looking over the completed project if that's ok? You might get a bit of spillage if the oil hits one of the center supports and it might spray all over and make a mess. You should look into putting a funnel...

I love the sign, been a Toyota fan just about as long as you have been. I am a Datsun convert. While I worked on Datsuns and Nissan's, I thought that everyone else had it backwards, then I got a job working on Toyota's and finally saw the light!! 18 years of working on Toyota and Lexus :beer...

Fun With Pallets and Shipping Crates

That is one good looking media storage. Nice and heavy so the record player is on solid ground. Do me a favor and at least say that you are going to make several doors to protect the records from flying debris hot or cold. I mention this only because of the band saw next to it. Find some scrap...

Cleaning corroded electrical contacts, need a tool

Those work great, I had a set similar to those long ago but gave them to my shop foreman when I got out of auto repair. With those you have to be careful not to open or loosen the terminals or you will end up with more intermittent problems. I saw a set of those with a set of brushes that were...

Cleaning corroded electrical contacts, need a tool

Thanks everyone for your advise so far, I knew there was a better term than contact cleaner. All that shows up is spray contact cleaner. As for a better description of what I am doing, I have several older toys that have a size c & d battery compartments where one end of the battery is down at...

I tried the usual contact cleanersand pipe cleaners, cotton swabs,ect.. but what I really need is some kind of stiff brush. I saw a set of small contact wire brushes on ebutt but can't...
