How do you choose which car battery to get?

I have good luck with the 3-year Duracells from Sam's Club, but Walmart also gets good reviews. in the end, only a few companies make lead acid auto batteries anymore (Johnson Controls, now Clarios, is/was the biggest)

They've already said it will use robots, so that is not in question. I'd like to see the labeling laws strengthened to tell consumers how much is made where, as a percentage. Tool forums quickly turn negative and argumentative!

So that's the flip side. I don't actually *need* Made in the USA and sometimes prefer other country's quality, price, reputation, like you said. I've been fortunate to travel throughout Asia and I have been to Taiwan, Vietnam, Japan, etc. and they have a great culture of excellence. But a...

Total fraud. We need stricter guidelines on "Made in the USA" or "Built in the USA" and American flag placement on products. It should have to say what percentage are global materials. I think cars have this rule. So SBD puts on Dewalt impact drivers "Built in the USA from global materials."...

Should have fined them more. What a scam. Can you imagine paying outrageous tool trucks prices for this?

Yes, the pliers are terrible. Might as well be Dollar store tools. Some (not all) of the gunmetal chrome SBD Craftsman mechanic's tools are not a bad buy on sale. On par with other Taiwanese tools at that price. But nothing special. Kobalt at Lowe's is better.

Me too. Jobs are jobs. Even the USA DeWalt "factories" where they snap the overseas parts together and put them in the package is better than nothing.

Country of origin can always be fudged for sure. I'd like to think/hope a company the size of SBD is being honest about the COO. The new Craftsman factory is an add-on to the Proto factory in Fort Worth. It will be interesting to see what comes out of there.

That would be interesting to know. The current Stanley Black and Decker Craftsman has been at Lowe's/Ace/etc. for at least 2+ years. It must be working out for Lowe's, because Craftsman has taken over the place. It's also good to see a lot of the Mechanic's tools are made in Taiwan, which...

Anyone recently buy a Craftsman shop vac?

Went to Lowe's last night and visited the Wet/Dry Vacuum aisle and it was very interesting. It turns out SBD is licensing the Craftsman name to anybody and everybody who wants to make a vacuum cleaner. I felt like I was at a flea market! At Lowe's, I found: -A 12-gallon Craftsman wet/dry vac...

Sounds like the old “Stanley” brand they sold widely at Walmart before the Hart tools. Sad junk! Come on, SBD. Sent from my iPhone using The Garage Journal mobile app

Alton currently makes Stanley, Porter-Cable and DeWalt vacuums for SBD. They also used to make a Bostitch version. Best way to tell who made it is to check for a model number sticker where the motor is, or a sure-fire way is the last page of the owner's manual, where the warranty info is.

I agree. If SBD wants to charge a premium price for the "Built" in the USA brand, they'll need to warranty it with the same thing. Taiwan doesn't bother me *as* much as it is a first-world democracy with a lot of great manufacturing and brands (Tekton, Gearwrench, etc.) I also had the great...

Glad they made you whole. Shop-vac really went down hill at the end. The reviews on the Lowe's/Craftsman/Shop-Vac line are terrible. --and yet-- If you go over to Amazon or Ace Hardware, the current SBD-licensed Craftsman Wet/Dry vacs are made by Emerson and have great reviews. Strange!

Oh wow, a lot here. I'm not a SBD shill, I assure you of that. I'm just a weekend warrior tool guy like a lot of people here. Yes, SBD is building a brand new factory, brand new building. What's inside of it and what they do with it, we shall see. Yes, Sears sold Craftsman to SBD in 2017...
