I think 4 feet would be the minimum if I was designing a garage. 4 feet infront of the lift is also minimum. I like to have my rolling tool cart near where I'm working so consider your preferences as well as your workspace needed.

This thread is super helpful. I was looking into these lights for my garage. I have 12 1/2 height ceilings and was going to install them between the rafters. I was thinking 4, but I might go with 6 as I do a lot of detailing in my garage and would rather have more light than not enough.

Agree. Any way you can get more height now, you should do it. I only have 12 1/2 feet in mine, and I really wish I had an extra 2-4 feet. I can store my Challenger in the winter and park my wife's car under it, but I can't do the same with my Lifted GX.
