VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Does the soak in simple green leave any residue on the surface? Will fresh paint adhere well? How about flash rust? Keep that away too? Got to go find another old rusting vise to try the simple green method. Lol Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

Wilton Bullet Vise date stamping. show yours with or without EXP on slide

I am no expert, but the early no dates were typically the pat pend, as the patent was applied for in 41 and approved in 42. I understand that heavy use could wear off the Mark too, but again I am no expert. It has been estimated that mine is between 41 and 43, also no mark. Sent from my...

I want to thank everyone that helped with the few issues I had cleaning up my new to me wilton vice. She broke down and went back together pretty well, given her 70 some old years. So, this is how I got her. And this is her on the work bench. Thanks again for the help, with my pat pend, no...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

You are so true. And the easy outs were new ones, so cheap. But where do you find good ones? I used the taps I got from my grandpa, which based on the UPS postage stamp is jul 1960 and quality heat treated. It says so on the box. Lol. Here is a little run down from my rebuild. When I...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

So I ended up being able to drill out the broken screws. The first one went well and the second one, not so well. It was moving, and then the easy out snapped. Those so called easy outs are a pain to get out when broken. Ended up using smalls drill bits around the broken easy out and got the...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Well. I dont have a welder, but I guess I might need to learn. This vise is going to get expensive. Lol. It makes sense to use a small washer the size of the 1/4 screw. Isn't there a chance of welding the screw into the hole? Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

I picked up a early pat pend wilton. And in breaking it down to clean and restore, I had the 2 screws that hold jaw inserts in sheared off flush to the vise. Any advice or just drill out and re tap? Thanks Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

I got the other side out with a little elbow grease. I did have to drill one screw and then was able to remove the stem with vice grips. When I moved to the male side, I had to drill both screws out and tried the vice grip trick and both sheared off. So, we will move to plan b, I just have...

Thanks guys for the continuing education. Got it apart, I found it interesting that the drift pin that holds the female threads in place is one piece and goes though the bottom half of the vise and fits into a shallow channel to hold it in place. Something tells me that the two pins in the...

Thanks Angry for the education on the swivel base or lack there of. Any Idea How rare these early Pat Pend models might be?? So, I am good to go just to mount it directly. I am looking forward to taking it apart to get the rust off and bring back some glory to this thing.
