    DIY Garage Slab Leveling

I actually already have the laser level, I did a pretty complete analysis of the slab when we bought the house and then laid it out in sketchup to figure out exactly how far the slab had dropped in each area. That's also how I calculated how much fill it would take to bring it back to level and...

    DIY Garage Slab Leveling

I think the building lean is related to the sinking of the slab and the poor construction techniques they used to build it. There are no footings whatsoever, and based on the varying slab thickness I don't think there was much in the way of site prep done before building either. After doing...

    DIY Garage Slab Leveling

No no, see you're the guy I want to hear from. That is an interesting proposition, and I think you're right, I do have the gall to believe I could pull that off (and maybe add some height to the building while I'm at it?). Excuse me while I dive down the rabbit hole of building jacking.

    DIY Garage Slab Leveling

I called up the pros first and got a 7k quote myself. 1) I don't have 7k to throw at this thing 2) Even if I did have 7k to throw at it, that 7k could go a lot further on projects that are a lot more fun 3) If I do it myself I get to justify buying tools I otherwise wouldn't need, gain...

    DIY Garage Slab Leveling

My brother, I am the cousin you call. It's either gonna go really well, or really bad, but it's gonna be a good time.

    DIY Garage Slab Leveling

So I have this garage built in 1962 that was pretty obviously put up by someone's cousin Tony who "knew a thing or two about buildin' stuff". The slab is 6 inches thick in the middle, 3 inches thick on the perimeter. It has a massive grand canyon sized crack running east to west, and a smaller...

    Miller Big 40 Issues

I've got this Miller Big 40 I picked up at auction that I've been working to refurbish. It's got the gas continental f400a-612 engine in it and I ended up just replacing the carb since the original was totally trashed. I made the mistake of not noting the position of the governor and vacuum...

Buying Garage (and house) floor plans

Does anyone have any good suggestions on where to buy a large collection of garage/house plans? I’m not interested in architectural or engineered drawings to build with, but instead a lot of designs to look at. Sometime in the distant future I want to build, and in the mean time I want to...

Did you ever broke impact socket?

I once broke an impact socket when trying to pull lug nuts off a Ford Aerostar. The nut was so rounded that I had to hammer on a smaller mm impact socket to get it off and it split in the process but didn't explode luckily. Obviously my fault.

Can anyone identify this old Bandsaw?

Interesting. I'm looking at photos of vintage meat cutting saws and can definitely see the similarities. Looks like there should be a fixed table portion that sits inward of the blade, and a sliding portion that rests on what's left of the table. I'd still like to figure out exact make so I...

Can anyone identify this old Bandsaw?

I finally unearthed the thing to take some more photos. This project has been deeply back burner'd lately. When I got it there was a piece of plywood bolted to the top of the table you see, and the table looks to be different then any modern bandsaw setup I can find. The whole thing is cast...

    Federal Pacific bow...what to do?

Our house had an FPE panel in it when we bought it. Our home inspector HIGHLY encouraged us to replace it and said something to the effect of FPE panels still cause 3000+ home fires a year even though they haven't been installed in decades. I swapped it to a 200 amp GE panel in preparation for...

    Botched concrete job

I worked in a converted industrial space where the floors were bare concrete, they originally had massive chunks missing, embedded steel that was cut flush and grinded smooth, and lots of other defects. The floors were filled where necessary and everything was ground smooth, dyed, and sealed...

Can anyone identify this old Bandsaw?

I picked up this bandsaw a while back and I would love to find some information on it and eventually some parts too. The makers tag has been removed at some point any ideas?

    milwaukee mag drill ? value

I'm an avid auction watcher and I just saw some well used Hougens go for 150-200 and a clean looking HMD918 go for 325.00. I recently saw a clean Milwaukee sell for 300.00. All that being said, those drills were not nearly as good looking as this one. I bid on all those drills because I'm...
