    Light Fixture Layout Collections

Yep. I just finished drywall and it is even brighter. I do not have a meter. I am just going by what prolighting.com calculated for me when I purchased the lights. (edit: I see that they calculated based on my dimensions of 50x20x15, a 2.5' work surface and reflectances of 80 ceiling 50 walls...

    Picking a door R value?

I'm finishing up my garage and just installed some cheap Cloplay polystyrene insulated doors, I think they are R6. For what its worth I paid $3645 total for a 14x15 and an 8x10 installed. I'm in Phoenix so completely different climate, but I'll tell you the air leakage on the sides of the door...

Click the “post reply” button, not quick reply. Click “manage attachments” Click “choose file” to find the file on your computer. It has a fairly small size limit so you might need to save the file in a smaller format if it’s too big...can’t help you there.

    Light Fixture Layout Collections

You can just post dimensions or a picture right here probably. I linked in my post just above to the prolighting.com website. I told them what I was thinking about and they sent me details and a drawing of the recommended placement for lights along with the foot candle measurements. They...

    Light Fixture Layout Collections

I ended up using 8 of these 3 lamp led fixtures from Prolighting.com at 8,019 lumens each for a total of 64,152 lumens and 38fc in a 20x50x15h space and it is much brighter than I expected. I can't imagine what some of these shops look like at 100+ but it seems like major overkill to me. I've...

New detached garage - code issue, drywall or make smaller?

I got a smoking deal on wall insulation at Lowe’s so I’m going to go ahead with insulating now too. I did radiant barrier roof decking since it was about the same price as standard osb & I got the cheaper polystyrene insulated garage doors. I have the opposite problem from you (hot) but hoping...

    Light Fixture Layout Collections

Thanks. Do you think 8 10,0000-12,000 lumen fixtures laid out 2 rows wide by 4 long would be adequate coverage to reduce shadows? I'm not painting or anything, just general auto and wood work.

New detached garage - code issue, drywall or make smaller?

Per zoning, yes. Per wife, NO.

New detached garage - code issue, drywall or make smaller?

The city approved it as just the adjacent section. It was actually their idea. I decided I'm going to drywall the entire inside with 5/8" drywall so it should be fine now.

    Light Fixture Layout Collections

I need to wire up my new 20'x50' 15' garage for lighting asap and I'm trying to decide between 2' linear high bays and the standard 4' T8 tube fixtures. High bays would be a much easier wiring job with less lights but am I going to have issues with shadows or will enough reflect off walls at...

New detached garage - code issue, drywall or make smaller?

The city ended up saying I just needed interior drywall and a fire rated door since there is a door that faces the house. Both sides are stucco which provides some protection as well.

New detached garage - code issue, drywall or make smaller?

I’m not sure which part you’re referring to but I’m just happy the damn thing is getting built finally. I think you need to change your signature line for the new COVID era...I have found that you only get to pick one now. What a year.

New detached garage - code issue, drywall or make smaller?

NUTTSGT Thanks for fixing my pictures. I figured out how to make them smaller (and switch browers) to get them uploaded but I hadn't gotten as far as making the full picture show up. No I'm not parking an RV in there. With the shape of my lot it was the only real shape that worked. I went...

Back/side view. Next on to electric, drywall, roofing, and eventually something on the concrete.

New detached garage - code issue, drywall or make smaller?

Good lord its hard to post pics to this forum. Is this a common problem? Here's 1 of a lot since I can't get anything posted without my browser crashing every. single. time.

New detached garage - code issue, drywall or make smaller?

I haven't posted in a while but the fire code issue ended up not being a big deal. I just have to drywall a small section of wall inside with 5/8 and I had to get a fire rated door. I ended up with a 20'x51' building (19'x50' inside) with a 15'5" ceiling and a 14' high x 15' wide door. I am...

Looking for the most aggressive diamond cup wheel for angle grinder

You may be done already based on the date, but that's really not that big of a project. I did something similar with a 4" RIDGID diamond cup wheel that was like $40 along with a cheap dust shroud that connects to a vacuum. The whole thing was quite bit easier and cleaner than I expected.

New detached garage - code issue, drywall or make smaller?

Ok - that's what my designer was proposing with it outside the studs but under the sheathing and stucco. He made it sound like an option vs. a requirement but maybe I misinterpreted. I'll find out.

New detached garage - code issue, drywall or make smaller?

Appreciate all the tips. Fully attaching it is not an option - window is required for egress, the roof on house goes one way while the garage goes the other so the garage is substantially taller for almost its entire length. It would be a nighmare. I will probably drywall and insulate the one...

New detached garage - code issue, drywall or make smaller?

Thanks. That drywall is probably the nicest option, it just adds a lot to the budget. It must be detached by some amount, there are a few windows on the house wall on the garage side. Cooling would be quite a bit more I think. It's going to have 14x14 and 8x9 garage doors on the ends so it's...
