Just some misc bench thoughts. Go with as thick a sheet as you can, if you can dent it with a one handed sledge hammer it's too thin. Aluminium is nice, but remember the sledge hammer, durability isn't the same as steel. Just bare metal is best, any surface treatment, paint, galvanized etc...
