Plumbing Question, Old Tub Drain Totally Stopped Up

That is a very good question, you are right, at three feet or so plus should be past the trap. It is behind very old ceiling tile, don't really want to tear it up, no way to repair, but I might have to. I think I can get to it from the other side towards the sewer if I cut exposed pipe and...

Plumbing Question, Old Tub Drain Totally Stopped Up

I got a help I am stuck question. Tub won't drain. This video shows the setup, tub is half full, no discernable water coming out. I thought the connection to the plunger broke, but it pulled it out and it all came out easy (unlike the video) and intact (looks just like unit in the video,)...

Does Your Body Hurt Less with a Lift?

I don't know if it makes that big a difference to my body, it is not too hard on me to work lying on my back, but getting up and down sure is less fun than it used to be. Pain from wrenching is usually from reaching into hard to access places and contorting hands or arms to get there, scraping...

    Are Air Compressors still necessary?

I had a big compressor (ok medium by you guy's standards) 8 years ago. It was wearing out and until I built my shop nowhere to put it. I sold it cheap and got a pancake compressor to tide me over. I don't do major restoration (body) work on cars anymore, but still a lot of mechanical. I...

Cordless Stick Vacuum for Garage Cleaning

I have a blower and a wall mounted vacuum. I use the blower more than the vac, quicker, I guess I don't really worry about a little dust in the garage. The wall mount saves me floor space, so I like that, but it is easier to wind and unwind the cord of a regular shop vac than to wind the long...

Anyone done a DIY wheel alignment?

Or here either, they were a block away from where I used to work so I went a couple times. Don't remember the specifics, but decided I would take my business elsewhere after a couple visits.

    killing Zoysia and Bermuda grass

My understanding is that Bermuda Grass is an annual, at least in my part of the world. Every year the grass grows first then the Bermuda pops up and starts overgrowing it. I don't really want to kill all my grass and start over, does a pre-emerge work, I am thinking I have tried that with...

Building the Cub Cadet Garage. Finally it's Done

I have a Cub Cadet too, it lives under a cover and I am hoping to build a shed this fall, a little bigger, one side for garden stuff and the lawn tractor (to get it out of the garage) and the other side for a little hanging out space away from the house. Good Luck with the Project.

    killing Zoysia and Bermuda grass

No, but watching with interest, I can control dandelions, crabgrass, nutgrass, but Bermuda grass come up in our lawn every year and I haven't found anything that will control it. The chemical treatments I have used, including specific ones from from Bayer, and they are not effective. I try...

    Windows style that completely opens?

I know you said you don't want double hung windows, but if you like to actually open your windows a lot, not just look at the pretty view, double hungs are the best. They don't care as much which way the wind is blowing. Strong winds won't buffet them around Cranks won't break or wear out If...

    Between 265 & 485 SQ/FT Bauhaus this house

Just found this as our benevolent overlord featured it on the front page. Love the house and what you are doing to it. Also the cars, had an Inka 2002 a few years back, just a useable driver, but I think these cars at the perfect spot between modern and vintage (but my perception of "modern"...

    The Ratchet Collection Thread

Tonight I am reaching in blind to change some coolant tubes that are tucked between the the firewall and dash of my old Jaguar. I feel something unattached and metal and pull this out. Figured it was older, looked it up, many of you probably know this but Flying V ratchet made from '59 through...

Shop sink going to grey water well or french drain

No expert, but I would still want an air admittance valve or vent pipe. If you don't have one or the other your sink will likely drain slow and gurgle a lot.

3-wire 240V conversion - ground to water pipe?

Not an electrician, but regarding marking a red wire green and any confusion about the wire's identity. I think I would be much happier thinking a wire was hot and finding out it was a ground, than thinking it was a ground and finding out it was hot. Also, if I am a red wire that identifies as...

    Jackshaft opener wobble acceptable?

Mine wobbles, it bugged me, I posted about it here, tried various things suggested, still wobbled. Stopped worrying about it, has been working fine for about 4 years now. Will see if I can find the link. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/chamberlain-rj020-wobbly.465079/ Dang, now...

    Craftsman garage door opener sensors

I have replaced a few garage doors and just left the old sensors in place. I thought they all worked the same, but obviously no expert.

New Age Cabinets, Bold or Pro

Buy the cabinets that fit your stuff and don't ever think about it again. I have read more than a few times on here people saying "I bought the expensive tool chest and never regretted it". I guess my thought would be that I have never been in the middle of a project and thought "man, this...

And so it begins: New Shop/Garage/Boat Shop build

Looks like quite a project, and a bit of a unique design compared to a lot of the plans we see here, but sounds like you are getting a lot of it figured out. Keep us posted and ask questions as needed.

Budget running low on detached garage build. Is plastic vapor barrier good enough to retain ceiling insulation?

Not sure what is meant by "actual fire door". My inspector said we needed a fire rated door between garage and house. Got a solid wood door for about $150 (6 years ago). Looks nice (feels nice, heavy and substantial) and is fire rated.
