Yeah saw you edited. The center screw connects to the metal part of the outlet which is properly grounded. With the GFCI tripped the entire circuit goes dead. One thing you said made me remember my unease with the center screw being the ONLY thing holding the outlet. I think I'm going to...

Understood on the box and center screw. I can run new wire if needed but yeah I'll prob be short. I will tack the wire to the joist with the new box per NEC spec. The basement is concreate floor and the circuit has a GFCI outlet in the bathroom on the floor above. Does that suffice?

That's what was in the location. I planned to use it, but opened it and found the outlet cracked. Those assemblies have thin boxes and the only outlet I had on hand would not fit. The only other box I had on hand was the hanger bar....but no cover so I used the metal cover. I wanted to be...

Ahh that makes sense thank you. The outlet is 1/2 switched and I like the extra room of 2 gang for pigtails. I'll start over with new work 2 gang, affix to the joist, and get a one side blank cover. Many thanks for the advice!

I use sold core home center doors edge banded with red oak. Definitely a lot to be desired when it comes to flatness....flat is tough to achieve less one has deep pockets.

Joist Hanger Bar Unfinished Basement - NEC Code? I'm looking at NEC trying to figure out if joist hanger bar is compliant in an unfinished basement open ceiling. I'm not having much luck. Anyone?

It looks like there's enough original cast iron to grind the brass off and start over but not sure.....I haven't welded anything since high school.

I asked if anyone can "make" one on the other forum. Is that not permitted?

I have a DESMOND STEPHAN SIMPLEX 31s vise and the main spindle nut is broken. I should add the nut was repaired before....looks like it was brazed at some point. I am a woodworker so not sure.....does this look like it could be welded...

My first thought was use the tool the guy in the video is using. Can you use heat? I find myself going to heat when it comes to glues.....torch, heat gun or hair dryer depending on the situation.
