    Hanging cabinets

In an area to be covered by the cabinets take a small finishing nail and drive thru Sheetrock to find exact center of a stud. Measure others from that point. Maybe double check a second stud with nail to ensure 16 inch spacing.

what kind of welding wire machine are you using?

I have a Lincoln 130. I got it when nearly new from a friend who works at a welding supply many years ago. I think I paid $400 for everything including tank and regulator and he threw in a helmet.

What can I get for $40k nowadays?

I have always liked the metal arched type buildings. They seem ideal for a diy project but all the companies selling them seem to be con artist with act now phony sales. I never looked past these companies to see if any reputable manufacturers who actually made these type buildings were out there.

    HVAC questions for installers

Mine could be 22 versus 24 but in any case very rigid in its final form I used a cut off wheel to cut the holes for the take offs and then SS pop rivets To attach them. No cement of any kind. The male ends had grooves for large O-rings which slid into the pipe.

    HVAC questions for installers

I was warned about possible condensation on the pipe from various people but it has never been a problem. Never even a hint of condensation. The metal is heavy 24 gauge and definitely no leaks in spirals.

    HVAC questions for installers

My duct work is made by a company in Trenton Tennessee. It is owned by an engineer and is patented (called Spiramere). It is not overly expensive but very high quality. I think l paid about 600 for entire lot. We actually like the way it looks but we have 10 foot ceilings which gives plenty of...

    HVAC questions for installers

Like previously mentioned it is best to have ductwork in heated space. I built a new small house two years ago and used commercial spiral duct work that has rubber orings to seal. No duct tape required. 1200 sq foot house super insulated I use a 1 1/2 ton heat pump and average $80 per month...

    Siding Question

I am doing my garage build as we speak using vinyl siding. I have also done several other small DIY siding jobs on other buildings of mine. I always use sheet rock screws with #10 flat washers under each screw. I know it is time consuming but have never had any siding problems. I just don't...

    Garage Wood Heat

I am selling my house this summer and moving to a nearly complete smaller house. I installed a Yukon Big Jack wood furnace at my old house about 5 years ago. I only used it about three weeks a year as it turned out to be too much for mild southern winters. These furnaces are made in Minnesota...

An AC that doesnt require hose or hole in wall?

I am starting a well insulated garage next week. Decided to frame in for a motel type heat pump 16 by 42. You can buy these units much cheaper than a mini split. There are many ways to fill the hole if the need ever arises. I can't understand the OP problem with a hole in his garage. Maybe after...

    Commercial Grade Ridgid Foam

The poly ISO boards like I used are rated at a R value of 6 per inch, but it degrades somewhat over time. I counted mine a 5. I started with the bare block wall (ten foot ceilings) and placed 1/2 inch XPS blue board against block then a continuous 1 1-2 inch poly ISO board over lapping all...

    Commercial Grade Ridgid Foam

I just did my new house in the very same stuff. I also got it in Kentucky from a roofing company just north of Lebanon Tennessee. I cut on table saw and tried to cut to fit tightly between studs, even requiring it be tapped into place. House is brick covered block, with roof trusses so all...

New house - new garage - need insulation/heat advice

I am building a new house with a detached garage. For garage heat and cooling I have decided to go with a thru the wall heat pump like you see in a motel room. Here in southern Tennessee heat pumps work very well. I can buy the unit for around $750 and they are made to fit a standard size hole...

Urgent advice needed - footers were poured today

How wide and thick did you pour the footer? I always over do it on thickness which can make up for other errors. If you find you want to or need to fix would it be possible to pour over the present footer? You could even lay two parallel rows of four inch block to make a form. Then over do the...
