My friend is introducing a cool flashlight via kickstarter…

My favorite flashlights generally have a maximum of 2 modes... high and low. In fact, I refuse to buy a light that has a strobe mode. Nobody needs that ****. There are tons of special use cases, but as far as I'm concerned, anything other than high/low is mostly a gimmick for most people.

Tool for gripping T40 “cam’d - out” Button Head 6MM Steel Bolt in Aluminum

While these are made for rounded off hex head bolts, there's a chance one of them will fit (if there's room side to side). I've found them to be super handy to have around. Maybe worth a try...

    Show your new tool arrivals

I've been avoiding buying an oscillating tool for a while now, but finally have a need for one. Found this on HD website and bit the bullet. The bare tool goes for $170, for some reason they also are selling it with a 4ah battery for $130. When I went in to pick one up, they weren't even on the...

Auto mechs, how often do you use deep sockets? Would you miss them?

Well, yeah, mostly... if you keep the socket/wrench perpendicular to the bolt, *in theory*, it should be the same as a wrench (although it never quite is). If it's a super stuck bolt, you grab a wrench. If it isn't a bear to get out right away, and it's not a tight space, a deep socket isn't any...

Auto mechs, how often do you use deep sockets? Would you miss them?

I'm not an auto mechanic, but this is how I feel Deep sockets are my default grab

    Kennedy Kits Discontinued

I had a kennedy roller with friction slides. Got it for a killer deal. Hated it. If it's got wheels on the bottom, it better have bearings on the drawers. My Craftsman, US General, and other boxes are all worlds ahead of the Kennedy roller, for a fraction of the price.

    Kennedy Kits Discontinued

That's about how my 11 drawer looked when it was my work box. Granted, mine doesn't have any felt, because you can't clean it. More work gets done with tools in a neatly organized box, because you don't spend an hour looking for the tool you need, grinding a new piece of HSS, tracking down the...

Step bit - why didn’t I get one of you sooner

I'm far from a sharpening expert, but I tried this a few weeks ago and had zero luck. Into the bin she went. The last one I threw away went from ~1/4" to 1-1/4", I trashed the 7/8" part drilling some holes a while ago, and so it quickly became a 1/4" to 3/4" bit. Luckily they're cheap. In...

Step bit - why didn’t I get one of you sooner

They're also nice with thin fiberglass! And if you get an impact-compatible one (I would never actually use one with an impact driver), and pair it with one of these You'll be ready for anything.

Step bit - why didn’t I get one of you sooner

Not just one, get a half dozen different sizes. Sooner or later, you'll use them all.

Anyone replaced alternator slip rings? Help with tape and soldering please.

I'd guess it's varnish dipped, just like you'd see on most electric motors. This was an old, kinda wacky Century Electric I re-did on my lunch breaks for a personal project.

I prefer one-off work myself. It keeps things interesting. I don't think I've ever machined more than a handful of any one part.

    Lawn Mowers Service Manuals?

Funny, I just bought this 11 year old Craftsman "lawn tractor" for a staggering $500 a few weeks ago (plus $100 worth of needed deck parts) The last couple days I used it to mow about an acre of 3' tall blackberries, mole hills, and grass that hasn't seen a mower in years. That old girl...

    Kennedy Kits Discontinued

CNC can make things that a guy on a manual machine could never make. But there is plenty of work that's just not feasible for a CNC. The first thing that comes to mind (most of what I was doing at my last 2 jobs) is repair work. Fixing old parts that haven't been available for years or decades...

    Kennedy Kits Discontinued

As silly as that sounds, I sold all but my 11 drawer and cantilever Kennedy boxes (IE, rolling cabinets) because they're just not very good boxes for the money. My Craftsman, US General, and other boxes are much better rollers, for much less coin.

Which is why the "dial indicator and hand wheel" guys make more money than ever. A CNC can't do everything!

Well I must be the only one who still uses his 11 drawer for his "good" tools.

220 volt 50 amp welder ext cord price ?

I'd say about 60% of the times I've shocked myself on AC is unplugging 220v welder extension cords. Inevitably they get a little stuck, and I instinctively try to get my fingers all the way around to get more leverage, only to find my thumb and middle/ring finger on the 2 hot prongs.
