    manifolds

I will second the Uponor manifolds. I have used several different brands of manifolds in the past, but haven't looked back since using the Uponor EP manifolds.

    Radiant Heat Pump Speed??

Bimmer1980 has it pretty correct. A delta T in the 10-20 degree range is typical. The colder the floor the faster the pump needs to run to maintain that Delta T, the warmer the floor the slower the pump speed.

    oil burner help

If it lights right back up after hitting the reset, I doubt you lost the pump prime as others have mentioned. If it is a single pipe system, you would have to re-prime it. On a two pipe, depending how far away the tank is, you may have to hit the reset a couple of times. Is it colder out when...

How to properly size a mini split

That will depend on several factors, where you live and how insulated the house is are only a few. Areas that reach 100 will need more than areas that only hit 90. But it would probably work good enough for a garage.

    Fresh Air Intake (for house)

Your range vent and bath vents are all you need. You will be slightly pressuring the house so it will find its way out thru them, even if they aren't on. Of course having then on will hasn't the removal of high humidity, as was stated earlier. One of the features the electricians install in...

    Fresh Air Intake (for house)

I live in Oregon, an with the energy code the way it is, houses are build so tight the air inside can get stale and they can sweat. One of the ways around this is to provide outside air. We do that by installing a duct in the return air that is bringing in fresh outside air. It has a power...

How to properly size a mini split

Over sizing a mini split is not the same as over sizing a ducted unit. You can get away with over sizing an inverter mini split, as they will vary their output. But you will cost more to purchase a larger unit, so you do want to get close, and try not to undersize, as it will cost more to...

Mitsubishi VS others mini split opinions wanted

Some, if not all multi head units don't run the heads at full capacity. On some models, like Daikin, you can set a priority head that will run near full capacity for that head. I have a Daikin 4 head in my house. It is not very well insulated in the attic, something that will be addressed...

Tankless Water heaters, yeah or nah?

I replaced the electric tank type water heater in my last house, over 10 years ago, and never regretted it. It did not require electricity, nor did it have a standing pilot. It had a small generator in the water line that created the current needed for the spark module when you turned on the...

    The Electric Station

    Heat pump system/ emergency mode.

You are correct, the indoor blower will run during the defrost cycle. It needs to run in order to pick up heat from the house and deliver it to the outdoor coil in order to defrost the ice. Your strip heat / aux. / emergency heat will turn on to temper the air coming into the house. Yep...

heating my shop with used motor oil

It is a conversion from ckburners I will give this a try, as it does seem like it is trying to light at times. No pump, it is a siphon system. I was thinking of trying regular oil, but haven't done it yet. I will raise preheat temp first. We have very mild temps right now, so it hasn't...

heating my shop with used motor oil

This is mostly directed to sewerzuk, however anyone with experience is more than welcome to reply. Have you burned synthetic motor oil, and has it caused any issues? The reason I ask is that after filling our mostly empty tank with about 30 gals of synthetic, we are having one heck of a time...

AC unit (inside and outside) not functional

Even if you were low on freon, the indoor blower would still come on with a call for cooling. The blowing fuse thing hasn't gone away just because it isn't blowing now. You could have a shorted contactor in the out door unit that finally opened with all the fuse replacements. Could have...

    Geo Thermal

If you are thinking of using the well to put a loop in, you will need more than one well. If you are thinking of using the well water, and pumping the water thru the unit, you will need a good producing well. And some localities only let you do that if you put the water back into the ground...

    Strange Furnace behavior

On most modern furnaces if the furnace sees a limit, it will bring on the blower and inducer fan in an attempt to cool everything off. I have seen this happen in the cooling season on some furnaces located in an attic. It can get hot enough in the attic to cause some limits to open. The times...

heating my shop with used motor oil

For all you guys thinking of doing this conversion, do it. I converted one for our sheet metal shop 2 winters ago. My boss wanted me to try and get an old oil furnace to burn old hvac compressor oil as we had a couple hundred gallons needing to be gotten rid of. I had seen mention of this...
