    Charging an electric gate battery

I bought a 95 Amp/hour deep cycle battery from Costco. The Ghost Controls instructions says it is limited to 30 watts of solar energy, so I have the two panels. 10 watt is pointing I am guessing around 50 degres from the horizon, the 20 watt is pointing around 20 degrees to catch the winter...

    Charging an electric gate battery

Sorry for the loooong delay getting back to my solution. I went solar. The system came with a 10 Watt panel, and I added a 20 Watt panel to give me a total of 30. I have added the remootio smart opener to the system which allows me to see the voltage of the system at any time. It has never...

    Charging an electric gate battery

Thanks for the option, but this is well above my electronics IQ. Perhaps sometime down the road I will want to go this route, just not now

    Charging an electric gate battery

Many more options, thank you, What ever I do, I will up date everyone, It may take some time, but I hate it when conversations just end without conclusion.

    Charging an electric gate battery

I like that idea. In the winter add a battery tender to supplement the system, in the summer, I wouldn’t need it. Lots of sunshine here in the Summer and very long days

    Charging an electric gate battery

I figured I would need a larger panel than what most gates would come with, but I also dont expect the gate to cycle more than a couple times a day on most days. I have thought about periodically removing the battery for giving it a good charge once a week, that wont be a problem, I will most...

    Charging an electric gate battery

Yes, My default will always be solar, I am just looking for alternatives I must say I love the interest I am getting with this forum. Just retired, so I have time on my hands to research this stuff, and will definitely be referring the the garage journal for my future projects. Thanks to all

    Charging an electric gate battery

Thanks for this info. I certainly dont want to go overboard trying to get a solid line vice solar power to a gate

    Charging an electric gate battery

Thinking outside the box. Could you use a variable dc voltage power supply to deliver, say 14.4 volts to a 12v battery at this distance? This is if you were using say a 14/2 low voltage cable. You would measure the output at the far end and adjust it until you are happy, or am I out to lunch...

    Charging an electric gate battery

Interesting, So I am not out to lunch on this. I dont have the gate or the opener yet, but I expect it to be 12 volts. But if I have power out there, i would add a couple low voltage lights as well, i wouldn’t be planning on running any power tools or stuff, that is what a generator is for

    Charging an electric gate battery

Ok, what about this? 500' UF UF-B 6/2 WG Cable Wire Direct Burial CU I am looking on Amazon. This is serious big 500 feet would weigh 150lbs. I suppose Ishould just bury this stuff deeper and run 120v to the gate. Yes its getting up there in price, but I want to do things right, without...

    Charging an electric gate battery

Ok, I guess solar is really my only option

    Charging an electric gate battery

Damn, I was hoping that since it was a low voltage with a small draw it wouldn’t drop that much. I shall do more research. Thanks

    Charging an electric gate battery

I have seen a number of posts about running 120v 15amps to a driveway gate, my question is a little different. I dont want 120volts, I just need 12v dc. What I would like to do is keep a 12v battery on a charger in my garage out of the elements and run 400’ of 16/2 low voltage wire to the gate...
