    Your right I missed the part about direct burial. I’m a pipeline guy by trade and not something I’m comfortable with. I like everything in conduit even if it’s pvc. Makes it easy if you need to replace wire later too.

    If he goes 60a 240v to a shop panel he can run 3awg. I personally wouldn’t run less than 60 but I don’t know what the house is really pulling. My brothers house all electric couldn’t feed a 60a shop service.

    The bigger question is…how many amps is your house using? Do you have any gas appliances (furnace/water heater/stove/etc? Hot tub Swimming pool RV hookup?
