What did you do "IN" your garage today?

One of my pet peeves: I live in a rural area. I really don’t care if someone’s dog takes a dump along the side of the road by my place, but it REALLY pisses me off when they put it in a bag and then either stealthily drop it on the side of the road or worse, throw it in my pasture. In my mind...

Another cane! This one is a Turkish Filbert stick with an Osage Orange handle grafted on.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

It’s really effective when the turd is in a nice, thin plastic bag: the whole thing slings like a frisbee until it unloads

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I was extricating a master cylinder from a 1948 Plymouth with the help of my friend. Trying to pry the clutch pedal off with a 5’ spud bar with a 4’ pipe cheater: slipped off and smashed my thumb between the spud bar and the frame. A red hot needle and a red geyser, and I was fine.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

My BMW 1600GTL is fairly easy to service, but simple things like cleaning the windshield is a pain: of course the part you look through is easy, but to clean the whole thing it must be removed. Adding coolant is also a pain. Adjusting the valves is an all day chore…..

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I’ve been experimenting with different types of wood for walking sticks and shillelagh. This one is very light, is from a chestnut sapling ( the root ball is in my hand), it is tipped with a short chunk of aluminum pipe, and would be an excellent hiking companion:

    Tools of Japan

A good friend gave these pry bars a few years ago and told me they were Japanese made, but they were so filthy I couldn’t find any sort of manufacturing marks until I finally cleaned them up today! They seem to be of high quality: the bigger one was abused rather hard by me, and the edge of the...

    The repurposing thread

Also, no stains or fasteners were purchased for this project. I used 2 different old stains, barely mixed together, to get a pretty interesting finish both on the applewood and the top. All wood cutting was done with a chainsaw, with some rasping and hand sanding

    The repurposing thread

The last couple of days we were in Italy, I was cutting up some fruit trees for firewood, found a 4 legged small stump, any a very old board scrap: Voila! An outdoor cocktail table for the patio!

    Look what I found!

Well, I took the thing apart but could not figure out how to get the screw out without grinding the hinge off, so I filled it down to the point that the screw now looks like a very thin rivet. The jaws now meet, but not mate. I think it will be a handy tool anyway

    Look what I found!

I’m going to see if I can get it out…. Thanks for the input!

    Look what I found!

Thanks for that. I’ve never seen one of these before, and I’ve never been around jewelers tools other than a ring sizer - I have a porter old one. This one has a spring. The screw that holds the spring interferes with the jaws closing completely. I’m thinking about filling it down until it...

    Look what I found!

Been outta the loop recently - in Italy! Most of what I’ve found stashed randomly all over the place it’s not very interesting, but this is It’s like a small vise that can be held in your hand. I have no idea what it could have been used for, but I suspect it would hold 2 vineyard trellis wires...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I did absolutely nothing in the shop today - walleye and small mouth bass fishing on the Columbia River today with my neighbor: 4 nice walleye and 8 bass, 4 of which were 17”. My buddy caught a 12 lb walleye 2 weeks ago at this area
