Harbor freight 5hp 1180 rpm compressor pump to my vintage Craftsman 5hp 1725 rpm motor

I don’t know what the original pump was rated at, no tags, but it ran with a 5hp motor for 15+years! I pressurized it two nights ago and it sounded ok! The HF pump is noisy though! Way noisier than the old pump! I’ll check the amps next.

Harbor freight 5hp 1180 rpm compressor pump to my vintage Craftsman 5hp 1725 rpm motor

Haven’t pressurized it yet! Just finished putting it together! I will say that the same motor with a bigger old pump ran for 15 years with a 5” pulley on the motor and a 16.5” pulley on the pump! Why do you ask?

Harbor freight 5hp 1180 rpm compressor pump to my vintage Craftsman 5hp 1725 rpm motor

16.5” is size that came on the HF pump. Same as what is on my old pump. Is it ok to downsize the HF pump pulley so I don’t have to put as large of a pulley on the motor? I thought maybe balance had something to do with the original pulley on the compressor pump?

Hi, new guy here! I’ve searched the forums and haven’t found an answer to my problem yet! Vintage craftsman 113.12320 5hp 1725 rpm motor on a Wayne 60 gal tank setup.
