Anybody build their own metal building ?

My original plan was to do a 24 x 32 shop with a 12 x 20 storage building for engines and sheetmetal/parts storage, but after reading several posts on GJ on 'What you would have done different', I decided a 24 x 40 shop would work better (fit 2 cars end to end). So, even after pricing the stick...

Anybody build their own metal building ?

Thanks for the replies. The contractor the company suggested also does the foundations ($6200.00 for the 30 X 40). I'm leaning toward having him do the whole deal. It's just turning into a lot more money than I had initially planned on, but to quote Dirty Harry, "You got to know your...

Anybody build their own metal building ?

After pricing out the materials to stick build a 24 x 40 ($8500.00 - slab), I've just about decided on going with metal might be a better option. I can get a 30 x 40 x 10 I Beam kit for $7400 (with insulation and a single overhead door ). I can get it assembled for $3600 or try to do it myself...

If you are doing a monolithic pour...

Opinion : Build on a flat slab or on a stem wall ?

Thanks for all the input. At least now I actually know the purpose of a stem wall !! Cost is a huge factor in this project, so I think I'll probably do without the stem wall. I've already received a few bids on the concrete without, the stem wall and its imposing enough. I'm thinking along with...

Opinion : Build on a flat slab or on a stem wall ?

I'm getting ready to start on a 24' x 32' garage, and would like to build on a flat 4" monolithic slab with 18" deep footings, which I believe should be fine for this area of the country. All of the plans I see call for a 8" concrete stem wall, that is elevated above the slab with the walls...
