    Above 1200 Sq/FT 36 x 54 Pole Barn Build

Floor heat seems to be running. We'll give it an over night and see. Boiler had an assembly issue from the factory that caused it to leak inside the housing, but with that squared away we'll keep moving forward!

Slower going with the baby, and wouldn’t have it any other way. Hoping to fire up the floor heat this week, vents in last week and gas line in today. One day at a time

Where to get decent bathroom fixtures?

We just wrapped up a build and sourced all the faucets etc from Delta Recertified. It can take a bit of waiting to find what you want, but the prices are pretty decent. No issues so far (hasn't been long) but all seemed good out of the box...

Picked up this Parker vise from a local medical manufacturer closing. My wife saw the sign and stopped in. I told her to offer $100 for it. Seller countered with $150 but you need to take the table with it. $150 for a vise and Lyon table? Done. The drill press is a Craftsman from my...

Electric When planning for the electric, I wanted to make sure that I had room to grow, without looking cobbled together. So I elected to used conduit for the install. In the main shop, I have one circuit for each wall, with an additional circuit for the high outlets. The radiant heat has...

I roughed in a full bath before I poured the slab, and hired the mason working on the house to do the CMU work on the side out in the barn. Two days with a crew and we were in business! The mezzanine on top is for light storage, and some extra play room for the shop cats. Shop dog Lex for...

Inspections on outbuildings are a little more forgiving out in the county vs in town where I’m at. But we had similar issues with hand railings etc when building the house

On December 7, we had power! No more generator! More framing in the office area No more ladder to get up to the loft Note the cribbing (from a transmission job) for the lower half of the staircase. Eventually, I'll build or acquire rolling stairs that can slide out of the way so I have...

Once the shell was up, I had several trucks of fill to bring in to finalize the grade. Compacted, and got ready for the floor insulation and radiant heat prep. Floor and edge have 2 inch foam. And concrete! ~6 inch pour Once that was squared away, the inside work for frameout could...

For the buildout, I had a list of needs: Office space (more WFH post pandemic) Room for future machine work in a clean setting Workout space "Dirty" room for welding/grinding and tractor storage General shop/ flex space for long term auto projects and general construction projects To fit that...

Well, I'm far enough into this build to make this thread a little interesting at least. My (now) wife and I bought a few acres in northern Indiana in February of 2020. The land had been in Conservation Reserve for the past decade and was just about ready to come out of it. We planned to...

Designing new pole barn 42X32 12ft doors Menards

For another data point, I am in northwest Indiana. Last summer I had a 44x80 pad cleared and rough leveled with ~8 inches of stone put down. Cost of that was ~5k. There were no obstacles and not much slope. I have signed a contract for a 36x54x12 6/12 pitch pole barn with an 8x54 3/12 pitch...

    Radiant Heat Heater question?

I use a 1500 W infrared heater in my office in the barn. So perhaps not quite apples to apples. Its about 120 sq ft. It does not run constantly and can keep the room at 75 in the dead of winter in northern Indiana. One thing I do use is a fan to move it around the room a bit more.

Lean to addition, what size "Man Cave Room" inside?

Last year, I started working from home regularly (well, full time for 15 months...). In any case, I built my office out in the barn, roughly 7x14. I have a desk, fridge and TV in there. For me for now, it's a perfect size. If I shared the space or worked on projects not on a computer in there...

Best (heaviest gauge?) garage tall and wall cabinets

Check out Jack Olsen's garage. He used Strongholds. I bought some used from an auction. 12 gauge, heavy, and built like a tank. New they are not a budget friendly option, but there are occasionally deals to be had.
