You could plaster the area and cover with nylon spackling wall cover. I have used this repair on big patches. Can be purchased in 3' widths.

I am a roofer ... you start from the bottom left hand side (if right handed) you can use starter strip which looks like 3 tab shingle without cuts but is a continous roll. If you dont have it you can turn 3 tab shingle upside down to do the first course underlay. Dont nail through the drip edge...

I had a CampbellHausfeld ... cheap to buy and it died after 4 years ... we have Ingersols at the job and they run forever. I bought a Quincy last year and it is strong .. my brother has one for over 20 years and he does a lot of painting and body work ... Quincy is the way to go

Ingersol or Quincy ... they will last forever.

the best buy and you cant beat it for strength is a microlam beam ... I have 25 feet span gable to gable and no sag after 14 years. not pricey either
