The building is 48x30 with 12 foot ceiling. I am planning to install a lift when I get the funds. It is rigid foam that I get from work. They get shipments of blood and they use the foam in a box with dry ice to make a cooler. the foam gets tossed so I've been dragging it home and putting it in my walls. Its a little over two inches thick. I have no idea what the R value is.....I will be covering it with drywall in the future.
Looks really Nice!
Look at liner steel for the ceiling and walls. It's expensive! But no tape, mud, sand, mud, paint stuff. Thats my plan for my garage. The electrical will be in conduit.

I am planning on using some steel for the ceiling and on the bottom of the walls (3 feet up from the floor). The rest I will probably sheet rock unless I get a better idea between now and then :headscrat . I also used metal clad wiring throughout. Where are you getting your liner steel and what width's does it come in??

I am getting my steel from Menards. Menards is like Home Depot or Lowes. I think the steel covers 30". You can order any length you want. It would be the same width as your exterior steel.

I take it you're tapping into the 401k a little now?
Pavement even, that's gonna look even sweeter with all those old cars parked on it during your next get together.

Yeah, I had some money from the sale of my last house and the driveway pretty much finished that off, but I had to do it as the stone driveway makes it impossible to keep my tires clean:rolleyes:. I'm glad its done, it really finishes it off. Now I need to fill in around the driveway and seed it. It never ends.......

Holly cow that's a lot of asphalt! How much does it run to repave? Im assuming it is per ft^2?

I recently decided to lower our driveway by two feet when we rebuild the house, which means I get to repave!

I am putting up a similar building in the next month. Size will be 38 X 60. If it's not too much trouble, would you be willing to share information on your radiant heat floor system? I'd like to do the same thing (run PEX lines now and put the boiler in sometime later). My email address is: [email protected] if you'd prefer to share the info off line. I would really appreciate your input. Thanks.

VERY NICE!!!!! That driveway had to cost as much as the garage.

Are you still going to York? I am, so if you see me please stop and say hello. I will keep an eye out for your car as well.

Hey Ol55,

Looks great! What I can't figure out is when you had it done....up in White Hall (the 'ol Hereford zone) we have no where near the leaves and green trees that are in your photos. Who did the asphalt and are you happy with the job? I will be needing a good asphalt company. I'll have to find you place with the red roof the next time I'm visiting my buddy in Glen Arm!

hotrodman - Come on, Baltimore city isn't that bad...

99E36M - Black top is like everything else, the cost is up and down. I got 4 different prices and there was over 3 thousand dollars difference between the high bidder and the low. It pays to shop, just make sure you're comparing apples to apples. In the old days I would have used concrete, but those days are over!!

PonyCar - I went on line to find info on radiant heat. Most companies wanted to charge for info, but I found one outfit that was very helpful before I ever spent a dime with them. I have to look around at home and dig up the address for you.

car-nut - Yes I'm going to York. I never miss it. I've been going since the first one in Timonium Md. We used to camp until NSRA put a stop to that. I'll be there starting Thursday at the host hotel. I'll keep an eye out for ya....

thammel - You caught me. Only a local guy would figure out that the trees are too green for this time of year. :headscrat Actually I'm a little behind posting progress pics as the driveway was done last summer and I never got around to posting it and I kinda forgot about it. I used Links paving, I believe they are out of Harford Co. They are a Mom and Pop team. Just the two of them did the whole job. I can dig up the phone # for you if you like. They were among the low bidders and they came recommended by friends. I'm happy with the job.

shenders - the company that put the building up is called B&D builders. It is an Amish owned company out of Lancaster, Pa

B.C. - I have been a little over protective about doing burnouts on my new asphalt, but now that the "newness" has gone away, burnouts are inevitable. I just don't want to dig any holes !!

You have one awesome garage. Its part of my inspiration for the new shop my father and I are building. I actually have changed my color scheme in part to your shop, that and plaing around in photoshop. You should post your updated pictures in this thread.

Got one question for you...
Where did you find the green porcelain lights youve got on the outside of your shop? I would like to pick a couple up.

Thanks!

* edit... these are the ones i was refering to if anyone else is curious:

Sorry for the delay getting back to ya PurdueSD. I haven't checked in here for a while. Anyway, to answer your question, the outside lights are old green porcelain units that I bought at a junk yard for $10 bucks a piece. I had them powder coated black as the green color wouldn't work with my color scheme, and they were pretty chipped up too. The conduit came with them, but they were straight. I bent them trying to mimic a shepherds' hook. All totaled it cost me $240.00 including the original purchase price. You can find these style lights new, but they go for about $150.00 ea. Ebay has these lights all the time, just a matter of keeping an eye out.......here's some pic's of the before. I was in such a rush to get them up that I forgot to take pictures of the after. I'll have to get some daylite pic's this weekend and post them so you can see them better.

Thanks for the info!

Heres a crappy photoshop of my direction. My siding will be vertical board and batten though. I still cant decide what to do with the roof color. The house has a brown dimentional roof. Lately i have been pondering a red standing seam roof though...

Colors turned orange..yuck! I am actually going for a shade of red just a hair darker than yours.

Here's a picture that's not too dark, maybe you can get an idea of how they look.

ol55,

I have three shades exactly like that! And a fourth that is a slightly different style (flatter/thinner).

I bought them off ebay years ago to use on my garage "some day". And that time is now. I have some weather tight sockets on order that threaded conduit/pipe can thread into, so they will function as a hanger as well. Mine will end up on about a 12" straight arm.

How's that powder coat holding up? Mine are the same sort of olive green as yours (Texaco, I believe), and I'm going to redo mine in a more Sinclair appropriate shade. Hadn't thought about powder coating. I was thinking about trying to paint them with an oil based paint, that way I can match my new side/service door to them as well. Just wasn't sure ho well anything would stick to that enamel finish.

DynoDave: The lights have only been up a short time so I can't give you any reliable info on the durability yet. I've always heard that powder coating is supposed to be the ****, so we'll see. I was thinking about painting them myself, but unless you get that old porcelain coating off and then use an automotive finish, it will probably fade in the sun. Most of those old lights are porcelain coated making them hard to sand so the new paint can "bite" into it. So you may have to remove the porcelain coating. I guess another route you can take is to get one of those do it yourself powder coating systems and do them yourself.

Donut Dave and BC, thanks for the kind words. I'm very happy with the way the garage is coming along. Its still a work in progress, but as progress warrants, I'll post more pic's.

Here's my latest garage "art" purchase. One side of the sign (the other side) was not in bad shape, but it was somewhat faded. I was hoping this side covered in paint would be protected. I started stripping the paint and I was surprised to see it was in fact in much better shape than the other side. Here's some pic's.............

I got carried away and started stripping before I took a "before" shot, so I stopped and took this shot...........

It is a neat sign. I have one just like it I bought about 20 years ago at a scrap yard for $8.00. Probably worth 30 times that now. Also have a Sinclair sign the same size on semi-permanent loan from my brother (doesn't have a place to put it). If you look near the bottom of the Gulf sign there should be a date. Mines a '58.

Thanks..........I didn't see any dates, but I really didn't look too hard. I know the smaller signs usually have dates but didn't think these big ones did. I have a Flying A sign too. I wonder if that's got a date on it too?? I'll check when I get home.............

Very nice, ol55. Beautiful garage. I have a Question about your floor sealer, is/was it solvent based or an acrylic type? How is it holding up?
