Ok, so I need to rent a floor sander to scuff up my VCT in prep for the epoxy coating. Having never used a floor sander before, not sure what I am suppose to use here. Called Home Depot (boy do they rip you off for rentals, lol) just to see my options and they have a Square Buff, a random orbital sander, and a third one I can't remember now.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

A regular drum sander like you would use to sand a hardwood floor with 80-100 grit. First check to make sure you don't have VAT which contains asbestos. That should never be sanded. You should also prep by pulling up loose tiles and filling these areas and any joints with a patching material. Do all this before sanding.

Naturally you don't want to make the asbestos air-borne. But when done properly , Epoxy is an acceptable sealer for Asbestos tile. It will encapsulate the tile and keep the material from going airborne in the future through natural wear and tear.

I'd use a commercial low speed floor buffer - like the type used to wax floors - approx 170 rpm. A lot of places rent them, around $30 - $40/day. Use a 60 - 100 grit screen on it.

BondTite 1191 is formulated specifically for VCT, it's self priming on VCT. One coat will do for most residential applications. For heavier use use two coats, or a coat of BT1109 topped with EnduraShield 2254.
