I have been all over the internet looking through mountains of information on steel building manufacturers and getting prices. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with any in particular that would be highly recommended, or any one with information on a company that I should stay away from? I am primarily looking at clear span buildings so I can install a two post lift. I could go with 10' eave height and a 4:12 slope OR should I go with a 12' eave with a lower roof slope to get plenty of clearance for my lift? Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated considering the amount of money I am about to spend! I have a dozer in the yard right now leveling the ground for my slab, so I will have to find and order a building soon to get the anchor bolt plans and permits. Thanks!

I'm thinking of a similiar building. I'm leaning to a 10' eave ht w/ clear span and maybe a 6:12 pitch. I've looked at MiracleTruss and some others, but have not made a decision. are you going to erect it yourself or are you going w/ a contractor?

I am probably going to build it myself just to take that added savings and dump it into shop equipment. Most of the building manufacturers seem to only go up to a 4:12 pitch. O r atleast thats what I get from their websites. I'm pretty sure I could get a higher pitch but I'm also just as sure the price would reflect that. Contarctors dozer is broken in the yard. He can't seem to get it fixed right away so I'm still waiting for the site to be ready. Oh well, hopefully he'l give me a break in price.

Hey Yotaforce,

Im researching steel buildings myself and got a good price from Champion Buildings in Wilksboro, NC. I spoke with Marty. Im trying to find someone that does good concrete work for a good price. Normally I thought labor was bascially same price as price of concrete (ie. material $1000, then labor to finish was $1000). They also erect the buildings.

MiracleTruss, is what I got. Scott was my contact. Very helpful. Even cayled me 6mth after the sale to chk and see all went okay. Too bad I still have not found a reliable concrete contractor to start the project yet.

I Just Had A Miracle Truss Erected For Me. I Am Only One Person So Could Not Put It Up Myself. It Is A 30 X 48 With 10 Ft/ Eves With A 6/12 Pitch So It Give Me About 15ft. To The Peak. Enough Room For A Lift. If I Knew How To Post Pics. I Would. Also Have 6 Skylites In Roof, A Lot Of Day Light.

I really appreciate all of the feedback! It has been a real experience just trying to figure out who to go through to get this done. My grading contractor has had so many equipment problems taht I was starting to think my project was cursed, but I will believe that it is BLESSED and that it will get moving along better soon. As far as a contractor for my concrete slab, same problem here. I have called three to get a price and they won't even return my calls like they have promised so they can inspect the site. I figure I'm just going to rent a small backhoe, dig my footers, form it, prep it with sand, gravel, wire, etc, and just get some help to show up with some bull floats and boots, call the concrete company and just just do it. It has been years since I did any slab work and there is a reason for it! It *****! But, what can I do? Again, thanks for all the feedback. I look forward to posting some pics as it comes along.

Below is one of my post from another thread. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8497&showall=1

I think the outback steel building may be what your looking for.
The pitch is almost a 5/12 mine has 9' eave and still has room for the lift when I decide what I want.
This is the dist. I used. They have dealers all over the US.

My "outbacksteel" building did not include the insulation.
But it does include the purlins "steel" that I know you have to add to the miracle and Adams trusses systems.....of course the outback is not a true truss system but it is clearspan.
They had the options that you could have them design it to use any type of siding you want. The sheeting is NOT figured into the structure of the building so I was able to use skylites without any problems.
I will try yo get some pics posted sometime soon.
It may seem like a long time "I broke ground in mid August" but I have done all the work myself mostly by myself with the exception of the concrete pour and it has only been weekend work so I have just started using it to park in.....

Well I finally got some pics done. Note completely done yet.....but usable for now.

Prepping the site, doing forms, all the stuff right up to the pour I think you can do yourself and just take your time, but when the concrete hits the ground you need a crew. Thats what I would be looking to hire is just a crew to help with the pour and finish the surface.

Now, I don't know much of anything about volvos. But that thing looks cool looking. What is it?

I got my 30'x40'x10' building kit from Adams Truss. http://adamstruss.com/

The same type of product as Miracle Truss at a much more affordable price. They do not list dealers or builders in your area. But I bet there is someone close to you that offers a comparable product.

The magazine that I get from our electric CoOp is full of adds from metal building suppliers/builders. If you know someone on rural CoOp electric ask them if the get a magazine and if you can borrow an issue.

Now, I don't know much of anything about volvos. But that thing looks cool looking. What is it?

It is a 1980 Volvo 262c Bertone Coupe.
Main chassis is built by volvo then sent to Bertone factory in Italy to have the interior hand done in leather and I believe they even do the "chopped" top at Bertone. It is about 3 inches lower than a standard volvo roof line.
My father bought it new and in 1980 the black ext was only suppose to have tan int. but they goofed and did a blk/blk.
Car has 76,000 miles was all original when we got it for my son. He bought the wheels and tires and we shot a new base/clear paint job on it. New stereo.
But nothing done to it that it can't be put back 100% original in very little time.
I have researched what I could on them and I think production was around 1500 for that year with only about 1/2 for import to USA.

I've got a few more pics I your interested.

I finally got my grading done. Now I am just waiting on some rain so it will compact a bit more before the final "rollover" by the dozer. I also need the rain to determine if I have any runoff, or rivers running thru the area. I have drawn a layout of the shop in AutoCAD and faxed it to atleast 15 different companies to get quotes and comparisons. Man, I'm trying not get in a hurry with this project but you guys know how it feels to want to get to work on something and you have to wait! The anticipation is killing me. I have cars to paint, hot rods to build, and home improvements my wife would appreciate, if I only had a garage to work out of! lol. I can't wait to post some pics as soon as I can get the camera from my teenage daughter!

Yes. And thanks for everyones input. I baught a Kentucky Steel Truss building and it only took a few weeks to get delivered. I chose them because they gave me a 35 year warranty on the siding and a 50 on the structure. I figured that while every one else only offered a 20 year on the paint, in 35 years I'll really be way to old to care, whereas in 20 I'll hopefully still be doing alot of work out there. I got most of the building up in 2 days (with about 4 friends helping for half the day), and now I'm trying to finish up the roof and insulation by next week (weatherman calling for rain). I asked in another thread if anyone had dealt with Kentucky before and found noone had. The price was good, the girts and purlins are all 2ft on center instead of everyone elses four, and like I said, it didn;t take but a few weeks to get it delivered. My concrete barely had time to fully set. I have another build thread that hopefully I can get a chance to dump the progress pics into soon. Again, thanks.
